DDog,

If the pushrod is noticeably lower, your lifter has probably popped out. With a good light you should be able to look through the hole and see whether the lifter is there or not. I was able to reuse my lifter.

Barry is correct, it may be possible to reset it without pulling the manifold with the proper tools and a lot of patience. On my engine, there is a splash pan over the valley, so it would have been nearly impossible for me to do it without pulling the manifold, particularly because it was the #4 cylinder, which is the furthest from the distributor hole. With your issue on #5, you may be able to reset it. Second hole from the left should be intake.

As a precaution, if you haven't already done so, it might be prudent to buy new intake gaskets, just in case. I've found they are not always in stock at the local parts store.

Good-luck. Are you planning on going to San Marcos at the end of the month?

Default nothing new

Thanks for the advice Rick and Barry.. I won't get to look at it till Sun.. I just hope it's not too bad.. How I feel for the guy with the white smoke post..Damn , I didn't know that was possible..and Fel Pro has let that go on ?? I don't know about San Marcos ..It's so nice down there..I didn't know about it..I'll have to check it out..
Will let U know what I find..I was readng the post on oil temp and I have been breaking all the rules with this motor..I ran it about 30 miles with the engine oil temp about 120 or so on a cold day in Jan the day I found out there wasn't a termostat in it....I hope my oil bung ain't in the oil.. and I need to tape up the cooler..I ran last summer 100 + and I think the temp was only 170 or so..
Thanks again..

DDog,

Here's a link to the Texas Cobra Club Spring Meet in San Marcos.

Default Interference nut and 10.660 pushrods 3/8 ball cup

I finally got the end stands and shims installed on the new shafts .. as I went thru setting all the cold lash I discovered the nuts on the rocker that broke the shaft (5 cylnder) on both intake and exhaust are weak on resistance..real weak on intake ..they are just not going to stay tight when the interference fit is loose..I would say they are loose as or more than a nylock nut...
soo what do or how do I find .. I don't think I even want to go to oversize nuts.. and my pushrods are the fat ones and long 10.660 I think with the cup..so do I have to change the pushrods now if I go to new rockers.. I think Summit sellls a set of new nuts for $45-50 .. but this rocker that broke the shaft had already been bushed .. it's the only one with a bronze bushing I believe?? I hate to piecemeal the motor but I already have endstands and stong shafts.. I would gladly go to Harland Sharp rockers if I don't have to get pushrods also..then if I get new pushrods , do I have to change the lifters..?
Thanks again.. It''s good to help the handicapped !!

Another common problem with the stock rockers. Ford sells over size adjuster bolts for the rocker. The taper and threads are just slightly larger so it tightens up again.

Check with NAPA . I got mine from them a few years ago .... and a lot easier than dealing with the local stealership .
