"Ford/Edsel" and "Ford Engine" have both had their advocates over the years. I wonder if anybody really knows?

"FE" is iron on the periodic table...there is a lot of it in one! Some say "Farm Engine". I do know the forged crank, big crank nose engines are "FT"s as used in medium and heavy trucks.

.......another source of info, such as FML= Ford/Mercury/Lincoln, FT= Ford Truck etc etc.......may or may not be correct:

"FE" is an acronym for 'Ford-Edsel"

Default Hello from a new guy

Hello, I'm new to the club and as an owner of a Superformance Cobra. I'm enjoying the site a lot, but darned if I can figure out how to post a new thread.

You guys seem knowledgeable, or perhaps creative..... and friendly and saw your recent post on line and thought I'd reach out for some help!

Thanks, guys.

Grego

Default FE -Meaning/stand for, etc

I recall in the early days FE was a term for "Factory Experimental". Also termed as "FX". No data to support either, just "hear say" at the drag strip.

Actually that is correct. Ford wanted a bigger cube motor to use across the entire line up, Edsel was responsible for the development. It became known as Ford Edsel. Per Art Hyde Ford Motor Company.

Hmmm. I didn't know about the 430 Lincoln motor having the block faces machined at an angle other than 45 degrees. Clever.

Default For an Opposing Viewpoint...

On the other hand, Jim Dove swears that it stands for Fairlane Engine... See: Insights Into The Ford FE

I agree with Ford-Edsel, but have also heard a few tell me it stands for Ford Engineering.
