Default Thanks

Thanks. I will go with your felpro suggestion. At least I will not have to worry about my pipes freezing this winter.

Here here!!! I agree. I had the same issue after going through my engine upgrade. The head angle and the manifold angles were not right , had to get them re-machined to the proper angle so they matched. No problems after that.

Angry Why Fel-Pro?

Maybe I'm missing something, but why the **ck (heck) would somebody recommend using gaskets from the same manufacturer who made the failed gaskets in the first place, especially when there have been so many reported incidents. I just went through the same Fel-Pro intake gasket nonsense that started this thread. (I had so much white smoke coming out one pipe that I thought they had elected another new pope!)

When I pulled the intake manifold, the Fel-Pro gaskets were gooey, gummy, distorted and full of splits. Surprising they lasted as long as they did (less than 7000 miles). No way I put in another Fel-Pro gasket. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice..."

Just for grins I checked the Federal-Mogul website and was amazed and amused with their statement: "Fel-Pro gaskets are backed by the world-class manufacturing capabilities and global resources of Federal-Mogul." With that in mind, has anyone ever seen material evidence of Federal-Mogul's "backing"? Has anyone received any kind of compensation for the gasket failures, was there ever a recall, did Federal-Mogul ever square up its corporate shoulders and even acknowledge they screwed up (and screwed us)? Doubtful, but I could be wrong.

What I'm sure of is that I lost a good chunk of what is a rapidly disappearing driving season here in northeast Ohio dealing with something that should never have happened.

BTW: I went with Edelbrock gaskets this time.

The difference is steel cored gaskets. I have been through this with a couple of motors in the last two months. Go steel cored and also check your port matching and sizes.
