Smile All Day Highway Drive -- 13.8 MPG!

All day highway drive, 75 MPH most of the time, 3.54 rear end, Tremec .64 fifth gear, 2200 RPM -- I was pleasantly surprised to get 13.8 MPG from my FE. I was also pleasantly surprised that I had no breakdowns either. Uhhh, my left foot did go to sleep once, which made it pretty hard to push in the clutch....

Meh.

Long drive to the oyster bar?

It's not like you have a REAL FE in there.

Did your beige paint blend with the Camry's and Accord's in the mall parking lot?

Two roll bars increase wind resistance and thus reduce your gas mileage.

Isn't time yet to put your car back into the zip lock bag?

It was in the 90's though, and humid, and I was soaked by the end of the day. But, all in all it was great weather. Even though there were storm clouds all around the horizon, and some with heavy rains, a "pocketful of sunshine" followed me the whole way.

In the land of our FE engines, 13.8 is nothing to sneeze at... but you wouldn't know that.

That RodKnock, he's always making fun. But having spent several hours straight behind the wheel, I certainly wouldn't want to do it on a daily basis. When my left foot went to sleep it literally couldn't feel a thing; it was like having a chunk of lead hanging off the end of my ankle.

Wow, tough room.
13.8 is respectable with your gearing. I'm running with a 3.07 rear .82 fifth and 17" wheels and see around 15 with steady highway speeds. Mileage really goes up when I get over to Colorado and run at 5 to 10,000 ft.
Longest one day drive Portland to San Francisco (about 650 miles). Left foot never fell asleep but on the plus side the cockpit and seats have enough room to move around a little. Wouldn't want to try it without the dead foot though.

You wanted authentic pedals.

Nice Patrickt. I'd love 14mpg. Without any OD, and a 3.07 gear, I can get up to 9 mpg, if I drive at 60mph. Otherwise - 7mpg... hahaha. At the track, its around 4-5mpg.

I can pass just about anything but a gas station

You know, I think I was partially dehydrated. It was in the mid 90's, and quite humid, and it happened on the trip back. My left foot had been resting on the dead pedal for maybe an hour or more and, when I asked it to move, it did not respond. I had to kind of "poke" my leg at the clutch pedal to shift. After I wiggled it around a while, it finally came to life.

In the Chas/RodKnock book, a sub-500 HP FE is not a real FE. I think if I unbolted my sidepipes and ran little shorties it would qualify as a real FE in their eyes.

About 400, but I was pretty woozy when it was done. If you pulled me over and gave me a field sobriety test that involved walking a straight line, I'd have some 'splaining to do. You know, "Uhhh, Officer, I'm dehydrated, I can't hear out of my left ear, my right ear is buzzing, I still feel the wind buffeting even though I'm out of the car, and my left foot won't work -- cut me some slack...."

When did the Cobra break the seal on the zip-lock?
News to me.

Cripes-your saga sounds like you ran the Paris-Dakar!!
How about MRI's for your broken foot and limp wrist??
Wonder if Dan or Phil's foot got any boo-boos running-oh say-THE TARGA FLORIO??
Bet you were too maimed to enjoy the wine / cheese gathering.
Another post-count adder about two useless subjects for the Cobra universe; gas mileage and foot hurty things...

No wine and cheese, I was visiting a friend's farm. But I did snap this shot while there as it reminded me of you.

Speaking for Chas, NO, it still would not qualify.

400 miles? Sheesh, you drove more in one day than I have in 2-3 years.

Patrick, are those your new seat covers?

Or maybe a Britax child's seat for the passenger side?

Why don't you join us for the Rehoboth Fun Run the first weekend in October. Visit the website of CACC. You probably won't get as much grief from the members and I guarantee it will be a lot of fun.
