I Need Suggestions
 
I'm driving a Contemporary with a FE motor and very little clearance under the hood. Right now I have a Sterling and Hellings air cleaner because I can't fit anything else over the Holley 3031 carb. I'm looking for suggestions for an air cleaner that will fit down over the carb and still have clearance under the hood. You guys have not let me down in the past and I'm sure you won't this time.

I don't have your solution, but I do have one thing to keep in mind as you search for one. People often focus so much on the size of the air filter that they forget to consider the size of the gap between the top of the carburetor and the top of the air filter. As that gap gets smaller, there is less space for the air coming through the air cleaner to be drawn into the carburetor. This can limit air flow as much as a smaller air filter. This is particularly important on large, high performance engines.

Hey Dan, Michael Bernica came up with a low profile air cleaner base on here that fits the Xtreme air cleaners. I just put one on a CCX.

You can see there's a small gap between hood and air cleaner.

Drop base filters create this situation. ERA provides a 14" drop base filter with the center plate that fits on the carb detached from the base. You then measure the clearance you have (putty works well for this), leave 3/8" clearance for engine torque and then weld the plate to the base at the highest point. This gives you a custom fit with the largest gap possible.

Try one of the L88 carb bases, they are as low as a Holley can permit without mods.

See if this works for you Dan. Distributor also plays a role.
They claim better H.P as well, which was also a concern of mine.
If you are using a turkey pan Nicks looks good but possibly a bolt instesd of a wing nut?
