Unless you're tracking the car hard, oil coolers serve no purpose in these cars. Disconnected mine but left lines in place for show. I run longer oil lines to and from remote filter, which provides enough cooling on hottest days.

Forgot to mention I also have a remote filter, and like others have said, aids in cooling the oil. The cooler is just for looks.

Steve (PANAVIA) suggested trying a 1/8" piece of rubber sheet to block off the oil cooler during cooler weather. I just attached it with some black duct tape and it stays in place all winter long. Does the trick.

The Diaphragm rubber available at OSH can be trimmed to fit, and i will post a video...

That's a hell of an idea Bob. What pump are you using?
Right now I'm running a Canton tstat and it works fine for where I am, allowing the oil to warm up even in 40 degree weather. Here in south GA, 100+ degree temps are normal in the summer months and the cooler definitely helps even on the street. That being said, getting rid of all that line in the oil system would have to be good for engine oil flow.

I went for a drive a couple nights ago with the thin vinyl film over the cooler. It worked better than I remembered. Believe it or not, it was at least 10 degrees warmer.
I like Rick's idea of the foam better. Easy on, easy off. I've got actual fuel cell foam because I make fuel bladders for drones. But what I don't like about it is that it would let too much air in. I think closed cell foam might do the trick even better. Then I'll felt line the perimeter so it doesn't scratch the aluminum too much and may even back it with a foil tape so the hot cooler doesn't melt it.
I'll get a new memory card for the camera, get a manicure and take a few hundred pics, ala patrickt.

BTW, I had a fuel psi problem that cut my ride short. I'll post that on another thread.

I'm using a Tilton pump, designed to pump hot oil from transmissions and differentials.
