Default Dang, I don't remember them being this dirty...

Alright, the car's up, and the four Trigos are off and, let me tell ya, they are filthy. I've pulled them a zillion times before but, knowing that I have to actually clean 'em, they now look like they came out of the trash dump. Except for wiping the rim off from time to time, I don't believe I've ever cleaned them. Well, I'll start cleaning and prepping them... tomorrow.

All wheels cleaned, prepped and ready to go. One wheel fully taped... this takes longer than I thought it would. I'll finish taping in the morning, then shoot 'em.

I'll mask it off -- you really can't see in there, even under bright lights aimed at it. But here's something interesting, the front wheels behaved noticably different under the Lac. Thinner than the rear wheels. Dulled much quicker; almost became "gluey." I think you could almost remove the stuff from the front wheels, if you were so inclined. Not so with the rears. They must have been baked on differently.

Did Park say they were powder or paint? F's and R's may have been done differently.

It's all PC, and one front wheel was more like the rear wheels, the other, not. The finish on the wheels is really not all that great. I examined them pretty closely to see exactly where the PC was and where it was not, you know, where it started and where it ended. The finish is nice, but rough. But, it's a wheel, and in seven years I've never really noticed it before, so wtf.... I don't know if I would even want it to be all the nice, rough is probably better.

Default The Results - Absolutely Stunning

The results are exactly what I wanted. Beautiful. I deviated from your instructions only by keeping with the flat clear coat and by applying two light coats of the Adhesion Promoter. Your recommendation to go with the base coat was perfect. For now, at least, you are tops in my book. Here are "before and after" shots of shade and sun.

Nice job. They don't look like standard issue Trigos anymore- moderately close to my mag when it was fresh.
OK-try it for a bit on the dry cleaner runs; if the flat holds brake dust you can't 'dust' off with a cloth, you may want to clear them over with semi or satin. Easy enough compared to what you just did.
Now you just HAVE to get the Avons like the Big Boy Cobras and...seriously reconsider the foam removal. I'm not asking for a second bar removal fer cripes sake.
Post some on-the-car shots.

Would you do me a favor now??
When the wheels come off for Avon installation, would you weigh one of each and post?
My uncoated, unfinished wheels weigh 17.8-F / 19.7-R.
Then weigh with an Avon on each. Radials being much heavier than bias anyway.
The BB's on my wheels with balance weights are 35-F / 41-R.
Not a pissing contest-I'm hoping to help guys on the fence about mag see the dramatic savings in unsprung weight. Sort of add to the CC database.
Although not actually weighed, I had a borrowed set of PS wheels in 7.5 and 9.5 (aluminum FIAs) which were substantially heavier than the mags.

Default How much do those Trigos weigh?

Chas, my front 235-50-15 Trigos, with Yokos, weigh 43 lbs. The tires alone weigh 26 lbs. The front wheels are 17 lbs.

My rear 295-50-15 Trigos, with Yokos, weigh 54 lbs. The tires alone weigh 32 lbs. The rear wheels are 22 lbs.

Avon CR6ZZ 245/60VR15 weigh 30 lbs.
Avon CR6ZZ 295/50VR15 weigh 34 lbs.

Thanks good info. The wheels are lighter than I thought. Tires about what I expected.
You may want 235's when you order the front Avons. See Bob's recommendation.

First of all, no. They wouldn't fool me.

Secondly, I'm not seeing much difference between the standard Trigo finish and your new finish. Maybe it's the pictures.

Surely someone on here has unmounted Trigos and can put them on the scale to double check me. But I think I'm right (did it twice, all four wheels). Now this is a bathroom scale, but I did check the calibration of it with 30lbs of my son's free weights, and it was accurate.

Checked several times over the years.
Is your 30% figure based on an exact wheel match-meaning Hali Cobra 7 1/2 / 9 1/2 wheels like Phil's, Lynn's and originals? Or 30% lighter than the same size steel wheel?

Uhhh, RodKnock, original mags with Avons look like they come in higher than Trigos and Yokos. Unless you're running at the adhesion break point, I don't think you'd notice much of a difference....
