Well, if weight savings is what you're after, you gotta go whole hog - Halibrands with BB's.
Mixing bias and radials with mags and ally with weight in mind isn't gonna get you far.
Stick with the Trigos, especially now that we've come to the point of manufacturing patina....and preserving it ... but for God's sake, mount some Avons on there.
Being on the East coast, you're gonna have to stay up late to get those numbers. I won't get home until 9 (PST) tonight and even then I have to remember.
And on top of that, remember some fancy equation that will end up turning Archimedes in his grave.

A. Do not even think my sense of aesthetics in the same thought as your shop-class rube projects on the roll bars and underhood.
B. Let poor Rodney alone; I think your Trigo weights and my mag numbers are very representative.
C. Just put the freakin' Avons on.

Patrick uses the "shades" emoticon so much that I'm starting to think it's the blind leading the blind around here. I still see little to no difference in Patrick's patina-ing of his Trigo.

As for bias play BB's, uh, no thanks. I prefer the V-rated Avons when it comes time to change the tires. And I'll stay with my Trigo's since, well, er, I have NO CHOICE.

Just another case of East Coast bias, just like ESPN.

I've picked up both types of wheels before and there is a weight difference. Maybe you and Chas both "threw back" a few extra oysters at the oyster bar that day. There's no chance I would believe the stats provided by you guys in whatever unscientific methods you used.

BTW, if Fran or Halibrand someday make a batch of mags and if somehow I can figure out the correct backspacing measurements so that they fit my Kirkham, then I'm still a buyer of mag wheels. They look cool and are lighter than aluminum.

Look. I opened the garage door just yesterday. So there! Why all the fussing over my driving habits.

First let me state that the Trigos are brand new, from their new (1.5 - 2 years old) tooling. These may vary from previous Trigos.
My Halibrands are either from the 2000ish or 1990ish run, I'm not sure. They have the same color as Chas'. (BTW Chas, the backs on mine are machined too, they just don't have that freshly machined look yours do ).
Also, my bath scale is digital but certainly not certified. What matters here is their relative weight.

And the envelope, please....

Trigos:
Front: 19.4 lbs
Rear: 20 lbs (very surprised by that tiny difference. I did it 3 times)
Total: 78.8 lbs

Halibrands:
Front: 16.2 lbs
Rear: 18 lbs
Total: 68.4 lbs

For a total difference of....
10.4 lbs of unsprung weight, or (Rodknock, Chas, are you ready for this?)...
EXACTLY 1.0 extra roll bars (padding included).

Hey, 10 lbs are 10 lbs. A 13% weight reduction. That's definitely worth $5K to me. I still want them.....someday.

C'mon, you realize that 10 lbs is just a gallon and a half of gasoline? Yes, I know it's sprung v. unsprung, but I stand by the fact that you can not tell the difference of shaving a little over two pounds per wheel. I'm very surprised that your mags are noticeably lighter than mine. Mine were from the 1990 sets-near the end. Yours being from the later batch may account for a change of alloy or construction-I just don't know. There were two different foundries I believe but never could trace their origins. Mine were from when Barry Blackburn (sp?) owned the company.

Christmas, my birthday or even today, Administrative Professionals Day, would be fine too.

As I said, if they were available, then 2.5 lbs (+/-) per corner works for me.

I'm going to see if I can borrow a small shipping scale from work and do it again.

There's also a fairly decent history of Halibrand on the HAMB. Might be worth searching.
