Block came home today. Spent a couple hours doing some grinding on the block then a couple hours filing piston rings.
Once crank comes back from balancer/grinder, it will be go time.

Sneaking up on it...
One of the pluses of ordering a custom crank is that you get to specify the bobweight. When the engineers lay out the counterweights, they can design them so it will make it easy to balance. This one just took one small piece of metal to internally balance.
These Oliver rods torque at 30 lb-ft plus 44 degrees, then you check stretch. This torque wrench wasn't cheap, but it keeps track of lb-ft, then keeps track of how many degrees you've pulled the fastener....

Very time consuming process....torquing, then checking stretch, then modifying if necessary, then recording all the measurements.
I forgot that I didn't have any fuel pump eccentrics machined. I use the Ford Racing timing sets and the Ford Racing one piece eccentrics. If you don't cut them down, they can rub on the timing cover. I dropped off several yesterday to have cut down, so once I can pick them up, the timing cover, oil pan, balancer, etc. can go on.
I also spent some time mocking up the valvetrain and adjusting the stand heights to get the most efficient action at the valves.

it is coming together very nicely. Good work is time consuming, but worth it in the end. Hurried work only leads to problems in the future. This thread is helpful for people who do not realize how much work goes into a quality build.

I've got a single pushrod coming from Trend so that I can verify mock-up measurements before I order all 16. I would love to use a 7/16" pushrod and still may, but want to see how much clearance I have with the T&D race rockers and a 3/8" .135" wall pushrod first.
Wife is out grocery shopping and I'm having some quality father/daughter time with my 2 year old (with the exception of taking a few minutes to post on some forums). We have already built a "fort" over a few couches using a blanket and have watched some Leap Frog videos together.
Plan to retorque the head studs this afternoon and see how well the intake fits as far as port alignment goes. I may have to have the flanges cut, we'll see.

Treasure the early years of your offspring. It goes by quickly. A few minutes ago I was having a conversation with my 15 year old grandson. Seems like just a few years ago he was just a toddler.

I do David. My business takes backseat to my wife and my daughter. God has blessed me enough that my wife was able to quit her job when my daughter was born. Has made it a little rough on us at times financially, but I wouldn't do it any differently.
Our daughter just turned 2, but can already count to 21-22, knows all her alphabet, can recognize each letter (upper and lower case) when you write them down, plus can tell you what sound each letter makes. She has also memorized the first 5 books of the Bible and can pronounce them.
Sorry for my bragging bout, but my world revolves around her.

Oil pump is bolted on...
Checked fitment of intake manifold. Ports line up really well, but the manifold flanges are not square. It will need to be skimmed on the mill to make sure they are. You can see here that without a gasket, with the intake slid over to one side, it touches at the bottom, but there's a good .015-.020" gap at the top.

I haven't rummaged through all of your boxes yet, but I did find a baggy of oil pan studs and a baggy of water pump bolts. Did you include all the others?
If not, do you want stainless fasteners or black fasteners?

I decided not to re-use my intake bolts. Would like you to provide stainless intake bolts. I think I sent all the other fasteners.

Looks like the 7/16" .165" wall pushrod is going to fit. I ordered a complete set.
Intake didn't need milled after all, it was hitting the T&D base mount on two corners, which kicked it up. Little die grinder work on the intake and a little X-Acto knife work on the gasket and we're back in business.
I plan to have her pretty much buttoned up by the end of next week.

I'm thankful to have a relationship with the guys at Trend....
I was down at Jon Kaase's shop a few years ago....you should see the pushrods he uses in his Mountain Motor class engines...they look like telephone poles.

Well, with the exception of putting it on the cradle and bolting up a water neck for the dyno....we are done.
The new push-sticks came in from Trend...
Had to do some extensive grinding on the flange holes for the oil pan, but it's on...engine is filled with 10 quarts of Valvoline VR1 10W30.
Had to put some MSD timing tape on the balancer. ATI balancers are notorious for being off and this one was out probably about 7-8 degrees. That's fixed...
Here's how it looked before it was corrected. TDC should be half-way between the two pen marks on the tape....
And corrected....
Checked the curve on the distributor, checked the bushing, and replaced the springs. They were looking pretty crusty looking. Checked the distance on the distributor gear.
I'm reusing the valve cover gaskets that are on the valve covers. They were glued on so good that they should still seal up really well. Just gave the valve covers a bath and cleaned them up.
Got a tentative dyno day of a week from today. Barring no surprises, we'll be making noise next week.
