Bear Block Motors price and machining
I got the following information from Bear Block Motors concerning price and the amount of machine work required on their 427 blocks.
Just thinking about my next engine project.
"Thank you for you're interested in our products.
Cast Iron blocks are priced at $3295 and it's ready to ship.
Al. blocks are $4495 and will be ready in end of Jan. 2015
Products will ship from Chatsworth, California.
Machining is done, need to finish hone for cylinders, it is now at 4.245
Thank you,
Warm Regards,
Doug@BBM"

There were several threads over on the FE engine forums awaiting their availability, but I have not read a single report from any builder that has actually used one. Just to make sure I didn't miss it, I did a quick search and couldn't find a single thread that had used a Bear Block.

Cast and machined in South Korea. I'm not saying it's a bad product because I've heard good things about their blocks AND heads but I like to keep my money in the U.S. as much as I can. It's impossible, I know, but I try my hardest.

I haven't used one personally, but if the block is as high quality as the cylinder head is, it's gonna be a good piece.
I think Jim Kuntz has used a few of them.

I'm with jetblue69 on this product. I have a recently built engine that uses a Robert Pond block. The Pond website lists his aluminum block at a price $200.00 more costly than the Bear aluminum block. That's not a deal breaker in my book. Cast and machined in the U.S.

As far as I see, I still don't see prices on their website ?
Checking if there's a price change.

BBM website has in red letters they are supposed to get a new batch of casting in May of 2017. Kind of disappointing that they have not updated their website in a month or more to either confirm they are now available or not.

I was just speaking with Doug at BBM over the weekend on a different matter. When we had finished that discussion I brought up the FE block availability.
He told me that they had sold out their April and I believe either June or July production runs before they arrived. He said they have new shipments of both iron and aluminum blocks arriving in August and I believe September. Both those production runs have more than half the blocks already spoken for.
If you are planning on using one of their blocks it might be worth the effort to contact Doug directly at BBM and get your name associated with an incoming block if it is important to you.

All good questions. Why don't you ask him, then you would know the answers with absolute certainty.
