427-66 side oiler value
Guys, I purchased a Ford some time ago with a 427 side oiler / dual carb motor fitted, I had the engine professionally rebuilt (Over A$6k) including new pistons to run on pump fuel. The rebuilder dyno tested it giving 457 Ft-lbs at 3900 RPM and a max power of 425.6 hp at 5400 RPM. A colleague has offered to buy this motor from me however I am unsure of how much I should ask for it. P.S. the motor appears all original, c80e-6090-n heads with solid lifters, c5ae6300c steel crank, c2ae-6604-a oil pump, c8ae 8505 h water pump and a FoMoCo aluminum intake manifold stamped 5-7-43. The block doesn't have any cast numbers other than a26.

Put it on Ebay with a high reserve and you paying the shipping. Tell your friend you'll sell it to him for ten percent off the highest bid and he, of course, picks it up from you. If the bidding gets too rich for him, and he reneges, you can remove your reserve and then sell it to the highest bidder.

For what it's worth, c80e-6090-n, are 428 CJ heads, not 427. Still good heads, though.

Any pics? Are you sure there is no casting number up above the oil filter adapter on the side of the block?

Directly above the oil filter adaptor there is a casting number A26, on the rear bell housing it is cast 66-427,

This is one option, what would you suggest is a high reserve? PS that A26 number is below the oil filter adaptor, not above as I posted. Also I was surprised to see the hand stamping on the crank, the 5 and the last of ground and hand stamped.

No ribs on the side of the block, so probably not a service block. Maybe a marine engine?
Also surprised about the ground numbers on the crank...

According to the reference materials I have at hand, the C80E-N heads were on 428 CJ and SCJ cars, '68-'70.

I say it is a center oiler marine block. The side oiler passage is machined into for the motor mount. I don't think that is typical for the side oilers.

Yup, that's what I'm thinking. Green paint on one pic might be a giveaway of an old marine motor. Now, next question would be is it a CW or CCW motor? OP said it came out of a car so I assume that part was sorted out.

I remember a kid back in high school. He had a Citroen, or something. Damned if one day he didn't start it up and the darn engine was running backwards. Yep, strange but true.

The motor was in a 1969 mustang 428 CJ, I was told the 428 seized or something in 1972 and the owner replaced it with this 427. It would now appear he only replaced a short motor, here are some more photos of the rear oil holes to help determine the motor.

Based on your pics, looks like the block is a hyd cam block. Do you know if the proper steps were taken to accept a solid cam? You indicated that you have a solid cam in it.

The last pictures show it is certainly a side oiler that is capable of using hydraulic lifters.
This increases the value. It's not collectable, but is desirable for many.
