If that was when you were unclogging the toilet, then you step to the front of the line for humorous goof-ups.

Nope. I don't win. That was just me being "inventive" and trying to do too much on the car myself. Holding some parts in place and released the jack, which brought the car down. Then, you try to get the jack back with one hand and your feet and only manage to move it farther away. Then you lay there feeling like an idiot and try to take a nap.

Actually, nearly every time I pulled the distributor, the oil drive came with it. I used a straw and slit it slightly and then pushed it down over the drive and then lowered it all into place in the oil pump. Then I twisted the straw until if broke loose. So, the straw is used to put the oil drive back. I have heard that tapping the side of the distributor will stop the oil drive from coming out.

I remember years ago using a piece of fuel line that I stuck on the end of the drive shaft, then lowered into place. Once in place, I put a little compressed air to the hose and it popped right off.

That's funny....I have never seen a replacement or aftermarket pump shaft that didn't have a washer on the end to keep it from coming out.

We should start a new thread on that subject.
New thread: List the stupid things you've done.
I wonder how many members would post?
Imagine how long the thread would get.

Yes, engine is running fine with the timing set right. No lifter noise. I need to adjust idle speed a tiny bit and fix the door latch on the passenger side and most of my oil leaks are gone. I have some small oil pan leaks but that's it.
I do have two extra MSD distributors now! I still have to drill some holes in the one I am using. There are a bunch of little items to deal with, but that's par for the course. Thanks again to all you folks for your help here. You folks are an invaluable resource!
