Question All Hyd. lifters in top oilers

I don't have my books handy right now so I thought I would ask.
Do all 427 top oilers have hydraulic lifters? Were 427 top oilers ever used in the original street 427 Cobras?

Thanks for any help. I am looking at an engine tomorrow night & I need to know these answers. I have recieved different opinions thus far.

Dave

My 1968 427 has solid lifters. Some blocks like mine did not have the oil passages for hydraulic lifters. Why? Not sure. I've heard different stories. Maybe some guys will chime in here and answer this.

About the first 100 cars (CSX3101-CSX3199) used 427 Low Riser with 2 x 4 carbs with Top Oiler blocks. There is some thought that a few (maybe one or two) of the 427 SC may have had them also. Thease engines did not have provisions for hyd lifters and as such had adjustable rockers. BTW unless you are going to LeMans or Daytona to go racing the TO block is just fine.

I have always thought that the top oilers were solid lifter blocks....it was only in 68 that hydraulics became available.

I do not think that the top oiler was ever used in the 427 Cobra as (I think) they stopped making them before they started making the 427 Cobra.

I had a top oiler high rise engine - bought it for my car - had to sell it...

The top-oiler, like the side-oiler is a solid-lifter motor. My understanding is that the only difference was in the oil galley design.
