Default Rocker Arms and Push Rods?

I just replaced my cam on my 428 CJ last weekend in favor of a Lunati 228 Dur and 533 Lift. I have a set of adjustable rocker arms and push rods I could install. What do you think? A few weeks ago I had my original rocker arms totally reconditioned. What would I gain using the adjustable rockers and what will I give up keeping my standard rocker arms and non adjustable push rods?

Adjustable rockers will allow you to more precisely set the "preload" on the lifter......especially if there has been any machine work to the heads or block. With 35 year old stuff, mixed with new lifters, cam etc., non-adjustables require close attention to the pushrod length. It is my understanding that adjustables have a higher lift ratio than non at 1.73??? When if you change to ball/cup pushrods, make sure the new ones clear the passage thru the intake.

Dan,

I am running new Edelbrock Alum Heads when I installed one side the push rods just to see if I liked them the push rods were shorter (although I could make up the length with the adjustment). When I set each valve they seemed to be loose ie: too much play on the valve springs. Even though I had put the preload on the lifters there seemed to be to much movement in each rocker arm when each valve was closed, so I took them off. I am still trying to decide which to use.

Did you use adj push rods w/ your bigger hydraulic cam?
