Default 428 ????? what did I buy??

I just bought a FE with C7ME-A casting mark on the pass. side of the block. The motor has a 2 barrel on it and came out of a 69 truck. So the story goes. It also has a 3 speed tranie. Well, I have not checked the tranie yet. What do I have??

Some 428 blocks don't have casting numbers at all, however here are some common castings you will find on the 428

C6ME-A C7ME C7ME-A and C8ME

take a look at www.428cobrajet.com/id-block.html

Hi Dwight If the motor came in a truck it is a 390 or a 428. The only way you will be sure is to pull a head and check the bore and stroke. threr is a slim chance it could me a 361 truck motor. Pull the pan and look for an I.D. on the crank. The motor you have was used between 67-70 year. Give more info on the numbers you can find and we will try to help you. Rick Lake p.s. The first FE motor I got was a 428 block with a 390 crank in it so be carefull until you can check it out. I got screwed on mine motor.

In my book, C7ME-A was only used for two different blocks, a 428 block, and a 330 ci MD truck engine. Take off the head and measure the bore. If it is 4.13", then it's a 428, and a good buy. If the bore is 3.875", then it's a 330 block, and is basically worthless unless you want to build a 330 - 350 ci FE. Although the 330 may come with a steel crank, at a 3.5" stroke though.

Default Go

With a 2 barrel I would think it's a 390.
