The "385" series BB (429/460) has seven valve cover bolts. FE blocks only have six. Easiest way to identify which BB your friend has. Practically nothing is interchangable between an FE block and a 385 block.

If it is an FE there will be a seam between the head and the intake manifold that runs upward to under the valve cover.Like they said it is the onlyengine that the intake manifold form part of the valve cover sealing surface.It makes for a wide manifold a narrow head and you have to remove the rockers and pushrods to remove the intake manifold. It is a pain avoided on other engines.
