how hot is to hot

what would be the danger range on a 427? and what temps do your cars run at during normal open road driving / or traffic on a normal 75deg day ???

On the freeway I can maintain 185 however, when I get stuck at a stop light I can watch my temp gauge rise to as much as 210 degrees before I get through the light and then it will go back down to 190 or so.

Plans are to go to an aluminum cross flow radiator in a few weeks.

Since we have the same body style/chassis I'll let you know how my new brackets turn out. The Griffen and such type radiators do not have mounting tabs as the OEM radiators do and are a pain to manufacture a mounting bracket for them. I've asked Bryan at B&B and his only suggestion was "have a radiator shop weld brackets onto the Griffen". Not what I was expecting. No radiator shop around here will touch an aluminum radiator. Especially one like a Griffen that uses epoxy claiming the heat of the welder will melt the epoxt and ruin the Griffen. So, he (Bryan)doesn't have a solution to aluminum cross-flow radiators for his chassis setup. I'll take pics and measurements of mine in case you are in need of a support.

Funny, I talked to Bryan too and he told me the same thing. I guess he is too busy to think about these things these days.

I talked to Roger Upton the other day and saw how he installs his. He uses a 4" U-Channel to set his tanks in. Roger told me I could buy the channel at Home Depot or Lowes. Looks simple and I will be installing the same as you in a few weeks (after Tulsa Mid-America).

I would shut it down if things got to 230 or so. My understanding is the FE can go to 240-245 before things start a-poppin'. Something has to be really wrong to get to those temps, however.

My normal operating temp is 185. Climbs to 205 in stop and go traffic, but no higher. I have a double-row brass radiator, Edelbrock aluminum waterpump, brass FE header tank, 19 lb. cap, drilled-out thermostat as a restrictor, 16 in. puller fan. I use a 50/50 mix of water/Prestone, with 2 cans water-wetter.

Sounds like you and I have about the same equipment and use the same amounts of antifreeze with water weter and water. The only difference is that my engine is bored 60 over and I am also using edelbrock aluminum heads, I have a 13" plastic fan on my engine too.
