Angry Shi**y Dyno Numbers...

So I go to my 1st Autocross. Car works great, driver keeps getting lost in the cones. 4 runs 3DNF's. Friggen OLd Man itus
And THEN to top off my day I put the car on a chassis dyno..
Fully expecting 400 + Hp and close torque numbers..
WEll The paper says 250 hp and 370 torque. At this point I'm leaving for the day. So now what ? I call my builder.. He says
throw away the low rise 427 intake and replace it with an eldebrock Performer RPM.. Retard the cam timing 4 degrees and
Have my guy go though the Holley 750 or replace it with a 780.
So I got a 428 with about the same numbers as a big 6..

PO'd is not the word..........

The worst part is now we know.. There are more people in this forum like you than not like you.. Whether they want to admit it or not.

Dyno's run correctly are sobering.Like the above post suggests, there are more "optomistic" dyno #'s out there than people will cop to.

Might be interesting to run your engine numbers through someone's software to see how it compares. Now days one should be able to come pretty close to predicting the actual dyno off of computer before you even run. Might also indicate if there is a problem or your getting what's expected.

Post the info and I bet someone will run it for you.

Just an interesting thought..... anyway I think so!

I ran my car the other day expecting 400 plus..Hit 350.2...I was a little bummed ,but after the valves loosen up and I get everything readjusted I think it can get closer to the 400 mark...The Dyno 3's are the same as track numbers..People are rarely doing what they think they are..Dyno #'s or ET's.........

Was this on a DynoJet or a Mustang Dyno. Mustang Dyno adds resistance so it is more like the dyno numbers when driving not what is actually at the rear wheels.

Denny:
Are those peak numbers? What was the torque at 5,200 RPM?

Denny,
If you are satisfied with the performance of the car forget the Dyno numbers, they are for bragging rights only.
I have no idea how much hp I have but I beat a lot of cars on the track that are supposed to have big HP numbers.
Since you are a track guy I can tell you that you will hear more HP talk at a car show then you will hear at the track.

If it runs good FUUUGGGEEETTTAAABBBOOOUUUIIITTT
