Default Hotrod Mag doing FE build

HRM has a feature this month on building a 1300 HP FE. Shelby aluminum block, Supercharged, FI'd, exhaust port plates, etc. Pretty interesting, although I am not a big HRM fan.

It seems that Carol himself wishes to make an assault on the 0 - 100 - 0 mph record. He is shooting for 10 seconds or under.

yea.. nice article.. It's a one-off.. no part numbers, availabilty what so ever.. Cost? no mention, I'm guessing $38-42k.. It makes me want to build a 454 Chevy and drive my CC into the SA building and do a burnout at 6500 rpm use the 32k I saved for bail money and still be able to drive it home..

Thumbs down

The ol' snake-oil salesman savant is attempting to do nothing else other than deflect attention from all his legal B.S. he's been perpetrating of late.

Default It's sad...

I loved cobras since I first saw one in person, back in the 1970s...from then on I considered Carrol Shelby sort of an automotive hero... what other Brit/American car had the cobra panache' ?

His armor is a bit tarnished and rusting these days

This was more meant to be of interest to the FE enthusiast, but oh well.

1300 HP is a big number no matter how you look at it.

No worries.

A bit tarnished?!!!

And the Titanic is a bit rusted.

He never had armour."THE" armour was the talented people he surrounded himself with. They are the ones really responsible for the Cobra. The armour is gone. The Series 1 proves that. It's sad-in a pathetic sort of way.

Default Article

Bill,

Saw the article too. A lot of "fluff" and not much substance. If I remember there is more to follow, maybe they will give some details.

Those S/C can pump the hp!

Default 1300 HP

1300 HP thats allmost 3 hp per ci even by miracle if this engine does make that much hp in ideal controled conditions it will never make anywhere close to those numbers in they cramped closed quarters under the hood of a cobra they engine will be inducing all that hot air and in effect never produce the same numbers sorta like every one else who has made a trip to the dyno lately much to there dismay.
ps how apropreate just like the snake charmer him self full of HOT AIR!!!
THANKS KANUCK

Kanuck is right. SHOW US THE DYNO SHEETS. The pictures in the mag are Great. No coolant tank, no oil lines hooked up, no exhaust carbon in the exhaust ports? 25 to 30 psi of boost? I DON'T THINK SO. Rember the QuikStang built for Y2K, 525 SVO motor, Duttweiler built, 958hp 857tork at 15 lbs of boost, It was just over 1k hp with 5 more lbs of boost. The Supercharger is only going to suck in so much air period and the intercooler is going to take 1 to 2 lbs. of boost from this motor. I would like to see the numbers Mike ??? Race motors make up to 2000 hp with the largest blower from Vortech and Paxton, and run 1/4 miles at a time. We are waiting for the rest of the article to come out. TWM is Maken 58MM throttle bodys for FE motors, I am going to buy a set of them when they are ready. The Jury is Out till this Time. Rick Lake

Well I think 1300 hp is possible, my big question is:

Will it LIVE at that HP output?

It is well known that a 302, for instance, can make over 600 hp, but reliability goes to hell. It will not "live" making more than that. Typically HP numbers are given with the understanding it is in an "ideal" environment. Therefore it is a "guideline". 1300 hp on a dyno on a cool day, the engine set up perfectly is STILL very impressive AND can be done! 1300 hp on the street? No way. and if so, NOT for long! Still,,,,,,,,it's going to make some serious HP, even if it is less than 1300 on the dyno vs the street.

Now HERES some interesting HP numbers for you:

A Funny car engine, 5000+ HP (for maybe 7 or 8 seconds, ha ha), uses 400 HP JUST TO RUN THE BLOWER! The fuel pumps (two or more usually) require 30 HP per unit. Just a couple of "numbers" on HP making. If the car "idles" for more than 15 secs it uses SO much fuel it affects the "weight transfer" on launch. The fuel injectors spray so much fuel under wide open throttle it makes your "shower head" look like a dribble. Each of the 16 spark plugs fire with 40 AMPS of power (you can WELD with that much power). 1300 HP for a 427? No problem! How long it will make that kind of HP? BIG PROBLEM!

Ernie
