Default FE cam with Webers ??

I just removed my 2x4's and installed webers. Wanted to try before winter so if I have to remove engine to change something I'll have all winter..My engine had a nice lope before --with the webers it idles way smoother. How much duration can I get away with the webers???? I presently have Comp cams 282s [236@.050] Runs OK but just lost sound... THANKS

I steve, I have a Superformance Cobra #1404 that I just drop a 427 SO with webers in. It took a little time, but I have it tuned and running great!!. As far as your Comp 282 cam, you should be fine running it with webers. I am running Comp' 270 cam because I wanted to make sure that there was no intake valve overlap. What are you going to use as a vacuum sorce for your power brakes? I had to use a vacuum pump set up which as easy to mount. I would be gald to help answer any questions that you may have. My work number is 903-597-5700 and home is 903-566-4209. From doing my research, I would not run anymore cam than what you have. The Webers just takes the lope out of the cam. If you try to increase the cam you might get more overlap in your valve timing with will cause back firing back through your webers.
Good Luck!

Dan is correct on the overlap.

I am running a comp 294s in mine and you will get popping out of the carbs because of the overlap....if you really want to change the sound go to stainless pipes that will sound different...but I haven't noticed a loss of lope to my car since going with the webers.

hardiman -- I've just gotten it tuned better. I had some of the filters with foam discs and after removing retune and runs much better- I have no problems with vaccumn I made a hidden vaccumn manifold under intake with an old nitrous set up- it has a #6 out rear of intake to my brakes--I have 9# at idle I hade 10# with the 2x4 set up. are you running any screens or filters?? thanks Steve McD 427aggie What type mufflers?? I've been told mine are restrictive and was going to cut apart and replace this winter but hadn't decided on which core to use.. thanks Steve McD

Hey guys, if any or all could please e-mail me about the webers for my 428 FE, please do. I would like details on everything. Where did you buy the manifold, injectors & do dads ! How's the install & clearance for the hood. Any advice & time, will be helpful ! I'm excited about doing this to my cobra.
Thanks,
Kevin (weber want to be) !!!

Thundercat,

I puchased my pipes from Stainless Specialties out of Florida. The muffler is a straight ceramic pipe....damn these things are loud when I get on it..

I lost 6 HP on the dyno with the pipes but picked up 40lb/ft of Torque....let me tell you its noticable...

Paid about $1600 for the pipes and it was worth every penny (wife might not agree).

Funfer2 you have mail.

Matt

Thundercat I only run screens and no foam filters. I made my screens out of 2 1/2 inch tea strainers that I bought at Walmart. The screen holes are very small and I used the rubber donut over the stack to hold the screens in place. To me it has worked very well so far.

Take care!

Dan has a very good idea with those tea strainers. Great thought. For you guys with the 427 or 428 FE's, you might want to step up the needle/seat application with a unit that has better flow. If you are interested, give me an email. G & D has three sizes of special twin ball designed needles that can be used for street, street/comp and full race. Let me know. They also stop the leakage which is inherent in the design of the Web IDA's.

Where can I buy these rubber doughnuts? I need them in 4.25 in. diameter for my air horns. Ingelese just sells 3.75 for 48mm air horn.
