Talking 428 Parts list anywhere?

I want to build as close as possible to the original 428 PI engine that came in the original cobra.

Is there a list, book, thread that details all the components anywhere?

I realize there are many after-market lighter, faster, stronger new components. All opinions are welcomed. Tranny suggestions are welcome also.

I will not be racing this car nor will it ever see the track. I want something reliable. Ideally around 450-500 HP. It will be a street version Cobra with rear exhaust if that matters.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

If your building a 428 PI as close as possible to original spec it won't approach 500 hp. 425 hp is more realistic.

I have a detailed list on for all parts and components for a 427 SO. If interested let me know. They are fairly similar.

Ok. Its pretty extensive. About 2 1/2 pages in length.

I will have to spend some time inputting. Give me a few days.

Evan,

If you have a scanner, scan the pages at 300 dpi and e-mail me the jpegs. (eracars@aol.com) Omnipage Pro does wonders.

Ironically enough, this engine will be going in one of your cars, you just don't know it yet.

I visited your office a couple of years ago and have been saving ever since....

From Milford, CT.......

Fbazski, also get Steve Christ -how to rebuild your big-block ford, it doesn't have all the latest oiling mods or listings
for after market parts but, it's good.

Get a copy of Ford's Off-Highay parts book. Covers FE, Windsor, Clevelandand 429-460. Gives original specs and part#s with interchangability of parts and specs on original stock and off highway cams, heads, and engine parts. I purchased mine in 1971 and wore the pages out, then purchased a reproduction in the late 70's.

there is a book currently in publication called "High Performance FORD Engine Parts Interchange"
isbn 1-884089-33-x
it is fairly complete and gives casting numbers for most all ford
v-8 engines and also states original specs
www.cartechbooks.com
you may be disappointed with the hp ratings from a stock 428 pi
probally will be less than 400

I have got a PI intake manifold that is perfect. No heli-coils, no rot under oil splash gaurd, no rot in the water passages, no oversize or broken pushrod holes, no cracks or leaks, use to be on my car. E-mail me if you are interested.

I'll be glad to share some pictures of my original 428 engine. I've got pics of two other 428 Cobras that are almost totally original, too, if that would help on the details of what the engine looks like. I don't have specific parts lists, however.
I am obviously bias, but I think your choice of a 428 rather than a 427 is a good one for your stated use. For a driver that is reliable and more streetable than a 427, a 428 is a great engine. The 427 was built to run at 6000 RPM for a few hours at a time on the race track. How many of us do that?
400 HP is more than enough HP except for bragging rights, not that those aren't important, of course!
Have fun!

I would love to see them. Please let me know how I can get the pictures. I have no problem paying for them or getting you any reasonable expense for your time.

TIA.

Bob: I'll fax the list to you. Our scanner doesn't work that well.

Can you scan it and email it?

I'm not exactly on the high tech cutting edge here.

Evan,

If you fax it, set your fax to its highest resolution. Fax: 860-827-1055

Yes - you can scan and e-mail the image, although the file size tends to be large.

Default Evan H & Jim Maxwell

Evan:

I was just wondering if you had the time to come up with the spec sheet you had talked about?

Jim Maxwell:

Have you had the time to get the pictures ready?

Thanks.

Let me know how I can help you if I can as I am really interested in getting this information.

Thanks again.
