Aviaid pan & dipstick
Can anyone who is using an Aviaid road race oil pan on their FE tell me what you are using for a dipstick? There is a provision for a dipstick on the right side of the pan, near the front. Whatcha usin' on yours?

The larger 3/4" OD fitting is used for the puke tank return. The forward 3/8" OD tube is used for the dip stick. Turns out this awkward location is ideal for the dip stick. Wedged between the block flange, water pump and alterntor. Use a Chevy dip stick for the Big Block.
George at Gessford will have one. Its a "cut and fit" installation. George used a brass compression fitting with nylon keepers inside (vs. the standard brass ring style) for a neat installation. Others use a piece of rubber hose and two clamps. This line narrowly misses the block and sticks up rear of the alternator. The dip stick bolt attaches to the water pump bolt, so fix the bracket first and then trim the length to fit.

Doug,
I've got the same set up. Call George at Guessford, they have a stick that will work and an aluminum plug for the other hole if you need it. Also, if you have a windage tray I'm not sure the stock location will allow the stick to extend beyond the tray.
Take care, Steve D***ey

Big Secret
The dipstick os a stock item....Big Block Chevy!!
It not only bolt right up with little massaging but even bolts right behind the alternator like it should. About 9 bucks at any speed shop.....

How about an improved dipstick tube for stock location ?Lokar has ED-5012,but I was told bottom fitting is alluminum, and knob is sure to soak up heat from headers and be too hot to grab.Milodon says maybe in Feb of 03.I was thinking of something that would seal with an O-ring at block and use a simular dipstick.I'm persuing something but if it is allready available I'd like to know now.

I have never had that problem with my Lokar.. But if it did you can use any threaded hole close to the left front as the line is flexible.. Lokar uses an o-ring at the block and the line to the handle is braided stainless and the fittings are billet.. If the photo page ever comes back up I have photo's..

Doh.. sorry there are no dipstick photo's I must have edited them..
It is the best $50 bucks you will ever spend if you have ever tried to struggle with the stock dipstick angle.. As it is a flexible line you can push the dipstik in and out vertically and not sling oil on you engine or your clothes..

Roger/Steve
The stock location on the drivers side won't work. The Aviaid pan uses a windage tray. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that the small fitting on the passenger side of the Aviaid pan is for a dip stick. The large fitting receives the drain from the puke tank on the firewall. I'll call Gessford and see what George has.

I'll pick up a big block Chevy piece, too - for 9 bucks, I'll give it a shot.
What did you mean by the following?
S/C
Comp Car
Aviaid Pan
One location for dipstick
Michael/SCOBRAC
The Lokar is a nice piece, but I'd like to stay with stock (or stock appearing), plus I'm cheap!

Dip
There is only one place for the dipstick is what I mean. Small hole in Avaiad.
Use a piece of fuel line in order to clamp the Chevy tube to the pan. Bolt behind the distributor and your done.
