Hi M&M,

I would lovw to get back up to Oregon again. I used to run produce up to Vancouver B.C. and went through the Portland area all the time!!! I love Oregons beauty!!! I think there used to be a Burns Bros. truck stop in Woodburn if I remember right!!?? I didn't realize that there was a strip there though.
Let me know the schedule for this upcoming year, and maybe we will just have to get up there for a weekend!!

In my opinion, Woodburn Dragstrip is the only show between Seattle and California. I personally do not race (well I might have to run the snake once ) but my son is involved in the JR program.

Many years ago they ran top fuel out at Portland International Raceway, but that has since long gone. I remember the first time they had 32 funny cars line up on the strip and all start at once. I was on the strip in the back of a tow pickup and only about 9 years old. It scared me because I could not breath with the loss of O2 and the Nitro fumes from all the cars running at once in a close proximity!

Anyway you are right on the truckstop. It is not Woodburn exit but close.

The only thing that they do not run is the Top Fuel cars. They have ProStock and Top Alcohol. This past fall they laid concrete to the 1/8-mile mark! Should improve times!

This is a bit off-topic but I had to share this with somebody who could appreciate it...
Tom, I have a Drag-Match for you in your '67 Stang...
One of my "other" hobbies is riding Hi-Perf snowmobiles...
The guy that I have do some of my clutch modifications has an asphalt-drag sled that you wouldn't believe...
He says it is the quickest, production sized snowmobile in North America. It was originally a 700cc Arctic Cat (2 cylinder) that he took another 350cc cylinder and welded it to the side, making it 1050cc (This was before there were 3 cylinder sled motors available of this size, which there are now).
Along with all kinds of engine Mods, it is bottle fed, and develops 243HP on the dino...
This sled has pulled an 8.83 second quarter mile @146 MPH...!
His fastest quarter mile was 163 MPH.... He says the sled is geared (theoretically) to top out a @ 220 MPH!
You should see the little urethane wheels on the short front skis... My sled will do about 105 MPH on a frozen lake, but I can't even imagine 150 MPH on a sled, on an asphalt dragstrip...
The funny part is that the rider has to have all of the snow-gear on to race...even in summertime...

I see those "Crazys" run at the track. I think the fastest I have seen was somewhere around 110 mph. 150 mph is nuts!! Most of the time they have the front skids off the track for about 330 feet!

What really takes the big "Kahunas" is the guys/gals on the four wheel'rs. Those tires are not rated for those speeds. One blowout and it's all over!
