What should I do with these???
NOS Arias 680 gram forged pistons circa 1980.. Anyone venture a guess as to the compression ratio.. The Arias Piston box just says "MAX" where the compression ratio would normally be..
Any Ideas??

Too many other variables. I can tell you one thing, not for the street.

Michael,
If the box is right, they are also for a short stroke motor. They are for .030" overbore if I'm reading right. The valve reliefs look even bigger than tunnel port size.
They would make a killer destroked 427 for track use. Just stuff them in an aluminum block, add a steel billet crank, some trick rods and a set of flowed TP heads and a radical roller cam and top it off with a serious Webber set up or injection and voila! 800hp@8500rpm!
I'd like to see one of those poked and stroked SB's keep up with it!
Those are the stuff dreams are made of my friend.

Yep.. That's where I was going with it.. Not for the track though.. Good thing I opted for the .017 over 427.. 3.500" stroke.. I have the big valve heads now (medium rise with 2.25" valves) an .800 lift cam.. VVVVVVVRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM...

Michael,
You're a man after my own heart. You might want to think about some lower rear gears?
Just feed it some raw meat when you turn on the key for the first time!!

Michael,
These slugs are about 16.2 to 1 Ratio. Arias and Venolia used to make these for the Hi-Riser and Tunnelport racers of the 70s and early 80s.
This is one of the lost secrets of FE power. COMPRESSION!!!!!!!!
I am planing on a 510ci FE with this kind of compression next year. With the right cam, Tunnelwedge intake, offset rockers would you believe 940hp without nitous???!!!!!

Hey Tom,
Why tunnel wedge and not TP heads too?

Those arent as-forged pistons
Although they are high compression pieces, pistons like that are built to be shaped to the chamber. I can only imagine if someone tried to run those, every corner you see would get hot and cause preignition, **** small enough chambers it'd run on diesel LOL
I would assume they are made for tunnel wedge or highrisers, get a good shop to look at them and give you a ballpark on where they can get the compression to.

Thanks Tom,
I suspected they were from that whole period when the FE's were pushing 16:1.. I will stop by and see you when I get the block (Genesis I hope if they are really in production).. Otherwise These will wait until I rebuild what I am working on now.. (maybe another 10-15 years.. The newspaper these pistons are wrapped in are from april 1980.. lol.. I bet we can get these to a "streetable" 14.5:1.. WWWhhhhheeeeeeeee...
I live in Vacaville and work in Sac..

Michael
I had Arias build my pistons, and my engine guy machined them to fit the chambers for a 12.5/1 compression ratio.
The Arias pieces look to be extremely well made. When we measured them, they were all within a tenth or so of identical.
