If you don't mind spending a little extra dough go with a hydraulic roller. I'd spec around 238 to 240 deg intake 240 to 244 deg exh duration at .050" with .560 to .570 lift on a 112 deg lobe center installed on a 108 deg intake centerline.
If money is a concern look at the same specs for a standard hydraulic cam
If you want a mechanical tappet cam go with 10 deg more duration and .020 to .030 more lift.
Call Tom at FE Specialties or George at Gessford Machine (check search for contact #)
Both are excellent and very knowledgable with FEs and have very good pricing and service.
HTH,
Mike

The 428 has a stock stroke of 3.98". You get more leverage but gained feet per second of piston travel.Top end RPM is lower than a 3.5" 352 or 3.78" 390. So you have gained touque at the expense of RPM.When you pick parts that all work at a given RPM(sweet spot) that fits your expected performance. Modify the oil system threaded plugsin block and allign up oil ports with bearing holes. groved maine bearings. Cross drill crank chamfer oil holes and polish the crank. It will never slobber as much oil as a sideoiler. I built a 406 in 68 and tried to turn 8500,didn't last.Want a killer cam TryC8AX-6250D Ford factory( trailer car only) cam .600" lift 330° 115°overlap Idled at 1800RPM. Side winder intake and 600 Holley came alive at 3000RPM But after turning 8400 it ratteled till it scattered.Hell 428 was for pulling 4000lb+ cars and trucks around.428 was a less expenseive choice for big block cars when demand went up for 427s.Ford put them in not customer ordered Cobras and passed them of as 472s and didn't tell anybody till later. I used a 428 in a big 63 1/2 Gallaxy w/C6 and 3.73 gears in 69.In todays eara stay below 11 to 1 more like 10.5 to one compression ratio soyou can run pump gas. It'ill make the outings less inconvient, being able to get gas anywhere you want.

SF firedog I am looking for a small hydro roller cam shaft. Your numbers are about what I want. Who built your custom shaft and which roller did you use in your motor. I would like to see a picture of your injected motor. I have a 501-533 cam which I like but want to go up to a 525-560. My pistons are not flycut for valve lift more than 560 lift. By your numbers, what is your cam set at? Thanks for the info. Rick Lake

Hi Rick,
I am running a mechanical flat tappet cam with Schubeck composite lifters in my aluminum 427. The Schubeck lifters allow my flat tappet cam to be ground with lobes very similar to a roller cam. I am running 200# seat pressure with over 500# open at .700" lift. My cam is 262/270 deg @.050 with .691"/.700" 112 lc
I like mechanical cams (adjusting valves) because it gives me a reason to pull the valve covers and inspect the rocker assys and valve springs. My motor will be built to rev to 7500 RPM which is beyond what most hydraulic lifters are capable of.
Talk to Comp Cams about your cam selection. They have ground several custom grinds for me and are quick and reliable.
With your supercharged motor I'd go with 114 deg. lobe centers installed at 110 deg centerline.
My intake is still in the building process but I will post photos when it is finished.
