On 427SO:
What rods are you guys using. Also, I understand that there is a new forged crankshaft out there that will that will increase stroke. Any advice?

My engine uses the late-model Chevy 454 hi-po rods.

I don't know about a new crank. My builder stroked my engine by starting with a 428 crank, then ground the rod journals to fit the 454 rods. In the process of grinding, he offset the rod journal centerline towards the outboard side. This resulted in an engine displacement of 484 cubic inches. IMHO, that's about as far as you want to stroke one of these beasts.

My 427SO has standard stroke Eagle rods. If you are going to run the hell out of it, you may want to consider Carillo rods. Several guys on the forum are using a Scat stroker crank with Carillos or Eagles. Jamo, Pat.........c'mon guys, speak up.

OK -

I am using Crower rods and a Velasco crank....because of the stroke and size of the engine I am going to put a 6000 rpm chip in the ignition box.

The new crank out there is the SCAT piece with 4.25" stroke and 2.200" journals. It's designed to work with either the 6.700" or 6.800" BBC rods. This requires pistons having a .990" pin instead of the normal .975" pin. This combination makes a nice 482 C.I. combination with 9.4:1 compression using a 39 cc "D" shaped dish in the piston.

do not use the 390 rods, which for soem reason were built into my motor.
two left sideways without a chance to recover much of the engine.
if I knew I had invested my last money to get a set of decent steel rods.
Chevys... - i even have a set of Carrillos for a 454... - if I only had known.

that happened at about 3500 rpm, downhill in second gear under acceleration. I was able to catch the car. sliding voilently sideways.

luck? depending how you look at it...

Luck?.....you make your own "luck". Luck is the answer your working on while your waiting for the "question".

And the question came:

Oil all over the road, can you handle it?

No time to find the answer, you either have it or you don't!
