Question Alternator--water Pump--side Pipes

I wanted to pick your brains for recommendations or opinions for
ERA #593 (Turk's old car):
1)I want to use a high amp alternator on a 427 S.O.--any
recommendations of what brands work well? Do you favor a
one wire hookup?Who makes a good set of pulleys for an FE?
2)I was planning to use Edelbrock's aluminum water pump but
they are in a backorder position.I have heard good things
about Stewart pumps and Milodon, but both are modified cast
iron.Any experience with these or should I wait out Edelbrock?
Would you use a 160 or 180 degree thermostat?
3)Now to the dreaded sidepipes.I don't have Turk's ambition to
recoat these pipes with VHT every few weeks. Most of the
header coating guys offer all colors except white.I've been told
that Swain Coatings offers a white but that the finish is not
smooth;like Jet Hot,etc. Any experience with Swain or does
anyone know of another source for a white ceramic coating?

Thanks-Dandy Don

DD,

March makes the only aftermarket set I could find, and they are $$$, If you are going side oiler ,I've been told by several experts to keep the 427 dampener with the pully cast on. that leaves the pump pully ......after paying 130$ for a march, I found that older painted and chrome ones are on e-bay regularly. I fyou get a one wire ford alternator it will come with a crome or billet pully,

I used an edelbrock pump ,seems to work great ,and I found them widely available, look around a little more ,I bet youll find one.

I put in a 160 and on cold days my engine wont warm obove 160 ,go figure

G,luck Karl

Don,

I don't recommend a high-amp alternator. It's just not necessary to keep up with the fan draw, and they tend to fry the ammeter when the battery is low. If you really want to use one, I can send you a shunt wire so that doesn't happen (but the ammeter will read only about 50% actual).

I can't say anything about the water pump situation except that the Edlebrock works well.

I would use a 180F thermostat with a small hole .

As far as the water pump I am using a Shelby unit which is probably made by edelbrock anyway but it does work well and only about $30 more than the edelbrock.

I am also in the market for low up keep white side exhaust and I don't it yet exists. I am going with black ceramic.

Best wishes!

Tony Hull
