Default Good book?

I'm just getting into the BB FE end of things and I'm looking for good printed reference sources on the engines. In particular the 428 based units.
My situation is that it's been slightly over 20 years since the last time I did any serious wrenching on any motors and then it was on a small block GM (I know it's not polite to use foul language on these posts but it has to be taken in context). The result of all of this is that, while someone else will be doing the buildup of the engine, it would be nice to know if the recommendation to increase the bearing clearence on the remote counterlift lobe on the frammis cam to increase oil flow would be worth the trade off in increase water pump impeller temperature.
I have about a year before the car is ready and about 6 to 7 months before I have to make a final decision on the power plant. While I cannot see myself becomming an expert in any sense of the word but I would like to gather as knowledgeable as I can during the wait period.
I never cease to be amazed at the amount of experise there is in these forums and I'd like to be able to take advantage of it.
Thanks,
Don Choura

Don - a good start is "How to Build Max Performance Ford V-8's on a Budget by George Reid.

Look in the Transportation (Automobile) section in any major book store and you will find plenty to read.

Good Reading

How to Rebuild Ford Big Blocks by Steve Christ is one of the best.

Don C Go to swap meets and get out dated magazines on the topic you are looking to do. Go with a top machinist WHO knows and builds FE motors on a full time basics. I have about 20 articles going back to the 60's on buildups. THEY NOT FOR SALE. I can put some together. and give you years and months. Read some of the history threads here. You will figure out the info you are looking for, or JUST ASK. Rick Lake

Don where are you located?

I used an engine builder that has done a great job for me and he is very reasonable. I also, know of several True 428CJ blocks w/standard cranks that have been sonic tested and are ready for the machinist.

If you have watched any of the FE threads you know the trouble you can have with a person that does not know the mods you need to do with a FE block and heads (even if they are aluminium). Clearances are so critical on these engines.

Clois
