Cross Bolting

I am trying to figure out what cross bolting is all about. By now, many of you know about my block It does not have the additional webbing.

What is cross bolting and is it something I can/should consider? The estimates are that the engine will be built to about 400-450 hp if that means anything here.

crossbolting keeps the main caps from travelling around under extreme rpm's maybe 6000 and up.

whether you need them would depend on how hard you will run your car. or what kind of revs you expect to see. a 428 block does not have the bosses for crossbolting although I have heard of it being done at considerable expence . If you really think you need crossbolting you probably would be better off with a 427 block.

Or check out www.pro-gram.com. They offer a crossbolt application for the FE series that do not have the bosses cast in. This is an expensive process but if you think the block will be above 6000+++++ think about it. Or get some 427 maincaps and TRY to find someone to machine the block. Some builders shy away from these because of the work involved.G.
