big block question again...
first...thank you for your answers to my questions, i appreciate the vast knowledge here......what is the best i could do building a big block say in the $15k range??...........i just feel a cobra has to have a big block, and that will be the approximate budget for the engine (yeah right...like i can keep a budget on cars!!)...so...looking for thoughts..thanks again...

You should be able to find and build a nice streetable (400/450hp, 400+/ftlbs torque, really plenty to motivate a car as light as these are) 428CJ engine for that amount, and still have a few dollars left over for those "period correct" detailing items.........Of course you do get what you pay for these days, so let the buyer beware. if a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is..........

I have a totally built test stand only 428 BB engine with Webers 48IDA's tuned and running for ya. I also live in Atlanta and since your in FL it's most likely only a day's drive. Let me know if you want more info. Feel free to call me at 770-664-7670 up to 9:00 M-F at home.

Once again I try to have a discussion with someone and WAMMM, it's back to the bull$hit.
The question was simple and for a good reason. If the gentleman is building a ERA Cobra he is probably going to want a 427/428 engine. If it is a Superformance, he might want to choose from a 427/428/460/514/520 c.i/etc... big block. I'll go and let the experts help now...

I did not see the "FE TALK" section at the top, however the question is still very relevant. I like 99% of all replica, original, real, kit car, etc... Cobra's. I have friends with ERA, Superformance, Excalibur, Shelby, Kirkham, Midstates, FFR, Unique, etc... Cobra's and I like them all. I have helped atleast 10 people find various Cobra's that had what THEY were looking for. Needless to say, the gentleman that started this thread would have probably told me the BRAND of Cobra he is building/buying and he would have brought up the 427/428 engine (FE TALK). I am not against FE engines, I have owned 390's, a 428 Cobra Jet, and a 427 S.O. engine. I have been looking into a Holman Moody 427 SOHC engine my friend has for use in a Cobra myself.
Instead of this turning into a "friendly" FE engine discussion, it turns into the same crap with others just joining in. What is Mr. Mustangs purpose on this thread, I am sure Mr. REM could have spoken for himself.

What a "crate motor" run? Sounds like 15K should be plenty if you go that route. But not enough if your talking about a 427 S.O.

well.....as being a newbie here, there are obviously interesting things going on....but to answer the question so as it may be a help, i am leaning towards an FFR, but have not completely decided.....is this good or bad?? ive seen pics of them with big blocks, sure its tight, but it can be done, as well as ive seen the new mod motor in them...thanks again for your help......

The fact that the gentleman says he is interested in a Factory 5 Cobra tells someone he could use anything from a 390 to a powersrtoke diesel. If it were a ERA, than it would be foolish recommending a 460. Once again the question was relevant to everyone but you. No offense, but I think the gentleman can think on his own. Quite frankly it doesn't matter what question you think is relevant. Until I see "moderator" or "babysitter" under your name, I could care less. The sad part is that on REM's Factory 5 thread you and others are giving good information and there doesn't seem to be this same bull$hit crap going on there. Why don't you ask Excalibur why he has asked the same question...
By the way, I thought Mr. Computerworks comment was clear to all. If you didn't understand it, than I recommend the "hooked on phonics" program for you.

I had about enough...Might I suggest you curl back under your lilly pad, along with your 160+ mph (per radar gun, but no ticket) in my 1969 Pro Street Mustang Mach 1. It does not matter which kit he is going to build, what matters is the drivetrain he has chosen. I know of several ERA's with BB's other than the 428/427 engines......Some even have small blocks under the hood, a few with Chevy engines. Take your bad attitude, and your childish snobby attitude, and go find another venue to post in. For here, you have been found to be lacking.
