The Shelby block isn't a side oiler design, it's a top oiler .

Kanuck

You're off on more than a few of those items. $1k for assembly? $500 in the machine shop?

Hey Allan,

What's the timetable looking at for your completion? I'll bet you can't wait to get your cars on the road.

Cool

Kanuck,

Have to agree with Jamo on this one, your machine shop $$$$ are off, as is the final assembly.......If someone built a 427 for 12K, you can bet it was not with an Alloy block, or aluminum heads....Used parts in a 427 engine...If your spending the money, why would you ever take chances with someone elses used parts(unless of course the machine shop is revamping those parts for you, in which case your $$$ are way off)..........As for the engine in my car, yes, it was built for less than 12K (all new parts), but at as time (1993) when the parts were reasonably priced. But even back then, the machine shop services were well over $1,000, hell, the heads have that much in just port matching, porting, and extra work done to make them flow better...................

Guys, we are building 427's with Genesis blocks for around 15-16,ooo.oo and Shelby aluminum blocks for about 20,000.00. add 1600.00 if you want the billet Crank. We are doing any stroke you want but mainly building the 4.125 and 4.250 strokes either getting a 484 or 496 stroker. On pump gas at 10:1 or 10.5:1 we ae dynoing these motors at 600+ HP. We do more FE motors in the Country(Yes, more than Gessford). Call us if you want the best. Thank You, Keith Craft Motorsports (972) 578-3550. Plano, Texas .

Default You can build one for 13K

Whoever. You can build a Shelby motor for 13K. If you get the best prices. This was 4 years ago now. The only used part was a 10-10 428 crank. EVERYTHING else was new. I have printed the list in other threads. Most parts came from Jeg's or Summit when on sale. The rest came from FFP in Cali. Only the short block was assemblied by my machinist. Blue printed and balanced. Total was 1,300.00$. The heads where CNC my Lefevers for 350.00$ The big savings is in labor. Do the assembly yourself IF you have the knowledge. You have to shop hard for the best prices. Rick Lake

JBAIRD,
There has been a lot of talk about the unavailability of Genesis Blocks.
How MANY of those did you build so far? I have been waiting to see one for 4 years.

TURK
Any in my neck of the woods?

Turk, here's what I know (mainly from the FE forum)

There are 50-60 iron blocks in the hands of customers and builders now with the remainder of the original 100 production run close to shipping.

There was a dude on the FE forum that was already drag racing his Genesis iron block.

What has not materialized yet is their aluminum blocks. Genesis seems to be having producability issues with these.

Jamo,

Thanks, the current plan is to fly down spend a couple days with the cars and then drive them home. We may need to stop and change the oil at your place

What it can take these days...

Shelby Aluminum Block $5150
CP Forged Alum. Pistons 855
Clay Smith Mech Roller Cam 308
Comp Cams Mech Roller Lifters 320
Edelbrock Alum Heads (2) 1010
Shelby Timing Cover 125
Manley Valves/Assembly 700
Shelby Intake 420
Velasco 4.250 Crank 1950
Holley 850 DP 482
MSD Billet Dist 260
MSD Plug wires 100
MSD 6A Box 194
Starter 310
McLeod Clutch/Flywheel 983
Alternator 170
T&D Roller Rockers 940
Pushrods 120
Valve Covers 200
Aviad Pan 615
Dampner 285
Manley Rods/Clevite Brgs/Mains 890
Speed Pro Plus Chr Moly Rings 103
Melling Hi Volume Pump/Shaft 90

$16580 These items only.

Does not include gaskets, fastners, etc. Total bill for parts was $17,931.88. Obviously, I got a bit of deal on some of the stuff (Velasco crank, heads), while other items are off the shelf costs.

Labor [Build/ Major Head Work (4400), balance (135), test run (450), etc.] $5075 Obviously, build costs will vary significantly depending on what is done to the block (Shelbys do need some work) and the heads for increased flow.

I paid 22,526.38 plus the scattershield, remote oil filter adaptor, rear puke tank fitting for manifold, water pump, pulleys, etc.

Throw in some freeking tax, and that's how you spend $25K real damn easy.

Hope this answers some questions. You don't have to spend what I spent--many alternatives for parts, and some of the labor (heads) depends on what you want. I still think you need to figure on around $20K for a Shelby-based motor.

JBaird

Your crank stroke and displacement numbers? Doesn't the 4.250 result in 482 and a 4.33 result in the bigger number (obviously depends a bit on cleanup of the bore)?
