Default Side Pipe Shields

Anyone running ceramic coated side pipes with ceramic coated shields with a BB?

Need to know how hot the shield becomes after running a while, is it safe enough for a kid to touch?

Thanks

Gary

Running a 351W, roller cam, aluminum heads, ceramic coated headers, sidepipes, and heatshields.

Can't categorically say safe for kids as all I have now are grandkids.

However, after 2 years, and 14,000 miles NO legburns, NO melted clothing, and I can put my hand on the heatshield with the engine running. The top is warm (convection), the sides are cool (no radiant heating).

Local welding/fab shop made them for me because they're not commercially available. Perforated low carbon steel sheet 7" x 40" rolled to 4 1/2" dia, then coated. Brackets are aluminum stock w/stainless screws. 4" stainless hoseclamps, 2 per side, hold them on (TrueValue Hardware). Easy to get off for cleaning.

A lot of spouses and significant others at DVSF II, & III inquired of my spouse as to their effectiveness, so there is a demand for these things.

Have photos if you send me e-mail address.

Thumbs up Heat Shields

I run a 302 but with stainless side pipes. Not only are they very loud, they get very hot.

You can buy them from Finish Line atwww.cobraaccessories.com

Not cheap, but worth the money.

Stainless and/or chrome plating doesn't have the thermal characteristics of ceramic coating. You'll get burned with stainless or chrome. You won't with ceramic. If you get stainless, you'll need it ceramic coated. If you get chrome plated, the chrome will likely have to come off to expose the base metal, then get coated.

If you would like to just buy these and bolt (screw) them on your sidepipes, let me know. Fab shop that made mine can make more.
