hydraulic throw-out bearing
I have the VERY first McLeod third generation throw-out bearing to be released as a "test" piece to the public.
The new design eliminates the "banjo's" and replaces them with a 90 DEGREE bent tube that is retained with a double o-ring and expansion tube.
It is actually a knock of the GM Corvette design circa late 80's early 90's which for some reason GM has given rights on the patten for.
Mine has about a thousand miles and 5 months on it is and is still dry.
The problem has mainly been with the banjo's...
if not the banjo's, it was because the user did NOT set up a peddle stop to keep from over expanding the basic unit and ended up cutting the o-rings due to over expansion.
McLeod has been very helpfull. They will be with you if you present your problem to Red in a coherent manner.
I think you will the new, third generation unit, to be trouble free...mine is so far...knock on wood!
Mine is in a ERA 289 FIA car...289 block, Tremec TKO trans...there is really no other way to work the clutch in this ERA application with reasonable pedal effort...no room for a normal clutch fork.
I would not use one if I didn't have to, but the new McLeod unit is I think OK...the 90 degree fittings or sound...but you MUST limit pedal travel.
I used a 3/8 bolt throught the end of the foot box as a clutch pedal stop...and have played with it extensively as I have moved the clutch pedal back to suit my height.
Hey, if it was easy to put these things together every dweeb would have a Cobra car.
