Mechanical Fuel Pump?
I'm trying to find a mechanical fuel pump for an FE that is machined with a 3/8" npt inlet and outlet. (Summit sells a "Summit" pump with those specs, but I'm trying to locate a "name brand"). Any suggestions?

You might check out the mfg.'s of the other pumps listed in the Summit (or Jeg's) book and see if they don't offer one. The mail order places don't list all the available parts from all the mfg.'s they use, just the most popular/used ones. They will get it for you though. Summit doesn't list all the ARP bolts available for the FE, but if you called and ask (it's best to know for certain the part exists when you call) if they can get it they will ,but it is usually a few days longer than regular inventoried parts.

Woodz- I tried that and haven't come up with many many options yet, but will keep looking.
427TP- Thanks for the lead. I looked at the Mr.Gasket pump, but it has 1/4" npt.

Mike,
I think my Holly pump has 1/4 npt f/m inlet and outlet ,it's to cold to go out and check now.
1/4" pipe size is larger then 3/8 tube size. Remember tube sizes are OD sizes, so 3/8 OD and 1/16" wall = 1/4" ID. 1/4" npt ID = 0.410" so 1/4 pipe has a larger ID then 3/8 tube.

Mike, Clay Smith Racing makes a 140GPH mechanical pump for the FE line. It has large 1/2" in and out ports. It is a heavy duty six valve type. - Tom

FYI
If you are going for more flow and using the original fuel filter, don't waste your time. The little black can is very restrictive.

I am under the impression that only two mechanical pumps available for FE are Holley and Carter. Am I mistake?

Turk
As far as I know, you are correct. The way to trick flow the Carter pump is to bore the inlet and outlet holes just past the thread. It will be enough to satisfy even the 600 hp race motors.

Turk, as I said in my prior post, Clay Smith Racing Cams sells a large volume pump (140GPH) for the Ford FE. I have one on my 427. It has 1/2" inlet and 1/2" outlet ports. Because of it's large diameter valve body, you must notched the block for clearence near the upper forward oil filter housing hole. It's a beefy pump.- Tom.

I think this is strange. The holley and carter pumps offer 3/8" npt openings for most motors including SBF, but not the FE. For the FE, they only 1/4" npt inlet/outlet. Wouldn't you want the larger inlet/outlet on FE as compared to a SB?
Mike, good point. I may just use the Holley than.
Tom, thanks for that lead. However, the ClaySmith is a bit more involved than I want to get. In addition to the block notching you mentioned, I think you have to run a regulator with it b/c it puts out 13-14 psi.
KK- "How much fuel?" A LOT

A Carter mechanical street unit with 1/4" NPT pumps 120GPH!. How much fuel are you planning to use? At that rate you would empty a 16 gallon tank in 8 minutes!

Hi Chaplin,
I've got a Carter 130gph on my 428 and I love it. Great pressure. I used it with the summit pump to carb kit and a summit gauge / filter fuel log.

If the boss where the fitting attaches will allow it, disassemble the pump, carefully drill and rethread for larger size.....if actually needed. Not a big operation.

As someone mentioned, Clay Smith has a 6 valve pump and carter has a performance pump that you can purchase through Summit for around $50.00. I have several digital pictures of the clay smith that show how it must be modified to work on the FE. Let me know send me a e-mail and I will send you pictures to help you out. The Clay Smith is about $130.00.
