Default Roller rockers revisited

Ok...
Jegs is listing the FE Comp Cams rocker set for $514 while Flatlander lists it for over $800.
Keith Craft lists them for $750.

But...Keith lists Erson rockers for $100 more than Flatlander . Why the big price differences?

I had not heard of the Comp Cams set before. Anyone know who makes them. So far from what I can tell, the choices are (full kits)
-Comp Cams
-Crane
-Dove
-Shelby
-Erson
-T&D
-Harland Sharp
-Jesel

Erson was the cheapest till I saw the Comp rockers on Jegs web site.

Why does Keith Craft use T&D on his crate engines?

Also, new link on Keith Craft page... http://www.keithcraft.com/site_conte...e_engines.html

Dove makes the Comp Cams units.

Some points things to consider . What are you using it for ?

In my opion ... For street / ease of install... shelby , for abuse / race ... Dove / comp ,
and for all out race... jesel , T&D or should I say for a 10k ,20k,30k

You should talk to a FE builder !

There is a lot more work involed in the all out race units ,
(head removal , machine work )

Depenting on what intake you have , there is work involved
for some of the others you listed , you must inlarge the bores for push
rods . You may need shorter push rods .

The Shelby ones ( nice ) may bolt right up , may use original push rods
but don't bolt at the end like the Dove / Comp ones do .
They use needle bearings I think . Also may be hard to get .

I did not give price a thought as the engine I found is such a rare one ,
it just needed to handle it's poison .
Good luck ,have fun!

Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller rockers are steel and rebuildable. My whole valve train is Comp Cams, I've had very good luck and good performance.

Spend a little more and do not worry about quality. I've had Ersons, my 428 has the Comp Cam system and the side oiler has the Jesel's.

Default Rockers

Chip Hi T&D and Jesel's need head work to fit the assembly on the head. They are a full roller rockers. Bearings on the body and tip. They are rebuildable. Jesel needs a pre oiler to prevent dry start ups with large cams over 700" lift. I think all cobra motors should have a preoiler for pre starting anyway. Most roller rockers have a roller tip only. The body is either bushinged or the body rides on the shaft. I have a set of old Dove's that a put a .020 groove in the body to give oiling all around the body to slow the wearing out. They now have bushing in them that can be replaced. I am going with Ersons next. The Shelbys are nice but paying and extra 300$ for the name is silly. I have a 600" cam in my motor. I think that the supports for the shafts and stopping flexing is the most important for hard racing. Make sure you Check the pushrod lenght for the right size. You want to keep the rocker on the center on the valve. Smith Brothers makes custom pushrods at a great price and 24 hour turn around. Just remember you get what you pay for. See what everyone else is running, I think Erson wins for mostly street driven cars and T&D, Jesel, and even Shelby win on the track side. Good luck Rick Lake

As you compare prices make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Some of the rockers out there are available as rocker arms only while others are rocker arms and shafts. Still others may come with end supports while others do not. For what it's worth, I'm runing the Ersons on my FE and I couldn't be happier with them.

FE Max makes a nice set up. They are stainless steel and have shafts and end stands. They were making Shelby's rockers at one time, but I am not sure if they still do. I think there was an issue with Shelby about exclusivity. They are pricy but without the Shelby name they are a little cheaper. Call Gary or Blaine At FE Max 1-530-378-1075.

I have the Dove's Not a choice I made, but they are great. My problem was with the center two studs they pulled helli-coils and all.ihad to have an isert installed in my alluminum heads.
I never heard what was going on with Brents' FE,But I heard he was having a mess of problems with his rockers and pushrods. I didn't hear how or if he got it fixed finnally.
