bmcmillan I don't know how you can compare a car with 17" or 18" tires to Clois cobra with 15" the last time I saw his car in Sept. My cobra has a 360 hp motor all aluminium and wieghts 525 lbs. The wieght is almost 50/50 if a lose 15 lbs. The zo6 is running 18" and 20" tires. There is a 800 lbs wieght differents between the to cars plus the CD of air flow. I cobra is a flying barn door, Lookat the nose on a ZO6,Zcar, F body GM car, or the Beimers. Cobras or 40 years old and still kicking *ss. Cars costing 2 to 5 times as much money can bearly stay up with them. Cobra was built for racing, not an everyday driving toshopping and work car. I am still getting use to racing my car but with the same tires on it as any other car, I will give them a run for the money. You should look into todays cobras, they have come along way. The body remains the same BUT not under it any more. Look at a Rick Hudgins car, F1 setup. Go easy on Clois, he works hard on that cobra and does well at the R&G every year he has gone. Rick Lake

Why aren't you guys installing windage trays and oil baffles in the oil pans? Not that hard to do and it will cut down on oil running up the sides of the stock pan during hard cornering.
Or maybe you are and it is not helping?

To answer a few questions:

I am running a Canton oil pan #15-720 which includes an 8 quart "System" capacity and has baffles and trap doors to contain the oil while cornering as well as a windage tray and a High Volume oil pump.

I am running restrictors in my aluminium heads and will be decreasing the size to .075.

I may install a PCV valve with a Tee and test it in a couple of weeks at Hallett. The truth is when I dyno'd my car I gained about 8 hp when I removed the PCV. I am also thinking of making a taller filler with a filter on top and a line going back to a puke tank or routing the line to the other side valve cover. Just thinking about this for now.

Ernie, I pulled off the 2X4 set-up a couple weeks before Mid-America and replaced it with a Ford Aluminium dual plane medium riser and a 750 Mighty Demon Carb. Performed Excellent last weekend outside of running just a wee bit rich.

Thank you very much for the compliment. You're no slouch on the track either and you have a lot less maintenance issues than I do.

But the truth is I had rather be in my garage than watching the final issue of Friends, The Bachelor, Frasier or what ever. However, I kind of like ALIAS.

Clois Harlan Like you I am in the garage on a 5 out of 7 night week. The other half would kill me if it goes more nights that. However I have the TV and Radio for the baseball games and football games in the garage. What's Friends??? Must be a game show . I keep getting in trouble falling asleep under the car and the 1:00 am wake up call. Oh well. Have a good one. Rick Lake Race at the track, check everything in the HOME garage, thats the key to fun racing. I learned this from Pete Tork, and look how he does at R&G

Hmmmm,,,, picked up 8 horse without the PCV. Now THAT got my attention.

By the way (here comes the hi jack). I'm running those BIG Goodyear bias plys and they have EXCELLENT traction. 3:03 rear gear with a VERY tall first gear in the top loader. First is good for 60 mph, 2nd 3rd 4th are close ratio (interesting setup, I like it).

Anyway, I was trying different rpms to "launch". After 4 or 5 (starts) I went to 3000 and the CLUTCH slipped!! What kind of clutch are you guys running?

Hi guys...

Just a thought about the problem Clois.

I had the "6" do the same thing. Here is how I fixed it. First if the K&N are mounted on the valve cover they are not "vertical" so when some oil gets blown into them they CAN'T drain back. the oil goes to the lowest (outside) side and dribbles out through the filter material. I made an "extension" that made the filter vertical and then went to a lawn mower shop and got some AIR FILTER material (the foam kind that needs to be oiled). Then you cut a piece that will fit into the neck of the filter. This allows the air to pass but blocks the oil. Works great...

Good point about the K & N breather..... My car does the same thing.... 351-W,pcv on the passenger side and K & N on the drivers side valve cover,stock type valve covers,my car may or may not have a little blow-by,but after a hard run such as an open track,the K & N filter will have some oil in it,when I park it,a few drops drip out the low side right on the second header pipe,when I start it up again,it smokes like hell for a minute or two,making people think the car is on fire........I have thought of an extension to the filler pipe that is staight up like seen on the 289 Comp Cobras,but hate to weld on my existing valve cover for fear of damaging it (aluminum finned Cobra covers),I think I'll try the lawn mower air filter trick first....

Dave,

The filter needs to be round and larger than the "tube" in the K&N filter. How I did mine was to heat up a hole saw or a pipe of the right diameter and then just push it through the foam. Makes a nice plug that stays in well.
