For those interested, Keith Craft just finished my motor.

Shelby Alum. Block, 4.250 bore, 4.250 stroke
482 stroker
Edelbrock Alum. Heads
Compression Ratio 10.5:1
Idle 850 rpm

655.2 HP @ 6,400 RPM
625.9 LBS/FT @ 4,500 RPM

Bret,

If your motor made 626 ft-lbs @6400 rpm's, then your hp is actually 763 hp at 6400 rpm's, not 655. WOW.

Dave,

You are correct Dave, here is the correction- 625.9 is max torque and this happens at 4,500 rpm, NOT 6400 rpm. Good eye! (formula is torque x rpm divided by 5252)

I think you need a second opinion. I seriously doubt it.
Could you post the original dyno sheet? There are more than a few of us that are qualified to disect it.

Original post is accurate, 655.2 HP @ 6400rpm. Measured on the second pull.
But, if anyone can get 700+ horsepower with 10.5:1 comp. my moneys on Keith.

CSX 4027 Steve those readings are at the crank, not rear wheels. Keith is using new valves intake and exhaust to increase flow readings. 665 hp sound about right. You going to Carlisle in Pa for the Kit car show I'm sure that a few of the KiethC motors will be there and see some dyno sheets. You will just have to wait. Rick Lake

I am curious Steve...what vendeta(sp?) do you have against KC? You seem to be bringing up old arguments that were settled...if you question the power that the motors is making why don't you talk to Brent...he rode in John Ross's car and knows what it feels like.

The dyno debate has been made...drop it.

I just don't subscribe to BS and heresay..

If most had a ride in a 580HP car and a 680 HP car, I bet the one with the loudest set of mufflers or none, for that matter, would be voted the most powerful. Your ride story has no meaning and supports less.
Would you like to start guessing peoples weight too?
Engine power has a measurement and it is not by the seat of the pants. An accurate dyno speaks for itself and a baseline check of that dyno is commonplace when numbers seem to good to be true.

Steve: I've got a buddy with one of Keith's engines. 527 Shelby block that puts out well over 700HP. He had the car on a chassis dyno and it made over 600HP...........so I'd say Keith's dyno figures are pretty accurate.

I'm jealous, but if your HP is from the crank, Anthony has it backwards. You have somewhere in the neighborhood of 560, which is more than you'll ever need and is very good!

If you are talking 527 cubes, I would need more info.

If you made a typo and meant 427, then please post build sheet and dyno sheet with all columns.

If you told a doctor that your colesterol was 90, heart rate 50, weight 390 and you ran the 100 yd in record time, I think he too would want to examine the patient.

I find it hard to understand with all this banter, that someone, ANYONE, wouldn't have already posted all the facts.

Even the HOT ROD Genesis article did not have a full dyno sheet.
Why?
Every other builder they test usually does.
Getting boring???
-Someone just post a readable dyno sheet already.

CSX 4027 Steve your blood pressure is going up Relax. In a month you and the rest of us will know the answer to the holy grail. I have asked a couple of these guys what cam is in these motors and nobody seams to know or is not saying, Small roller is what is writen. I am looking at rollers myself and crane has the smallest of the major companys. All the others are custom cams at 375.00 per. One note, you can do alot more with a roller cam with openings being faster, valve staying open longer and closing faster. I am sure that ther is some HP and Tork to be found there. Don't forget, they are looking for 75 hp, they don't care about tork. Advancing a cam can give a 20-40 hp advantage on the same motor. I retarded my cam for tork, lost 22 hp and picked up 37 lb of tork with no other changes. I due not know how long Kieth worked with Kuntz but if it is anything like Warren Johnson and Greg Anderson, Look at those two. Greg been kicking butt for 2 years when the car or driver doesn't have a brain fart. This could be the same thing, someone has to pick the torch and run with it

Rick Lake I would kill for 20 to 40 horsepower by just advancing the camshaft. I am amazed the you lost the HP you did and gained torque. I will have to play with that a little. I can sell you a camshaft like we are running in these engines and that information is provided to every customer we build a engine for as well as a build sheet with all specs on engine build.
The 527 FE engine that was refered to is correct. This engine was 4.380 bore with a 4.375 stroke and a awsome piece it is, I just drove it the other day. Good luck Keith Craft

Who on earth are you trying to kid?

That's an impossible combination, especially with fe heads, of ANY kind. I suppose this was with pump gas and 32 deg of timing, oh, and mufflers, too.

on my Keith Craft built 496 c.i. Genesis block 427 S.O. 4.310 bore, 4.250 stroke, SCAT crank, JE pistons, 10.8 compression, Edelbrock RPM Performer heads with stage III porting, Comp. cams Hyd. roller cam and DaVinci 950 carb.



Have at it! 666.1 HP, 632.7 lb-ft.

I smell a rat. Do the math on the torque/hp figures...they're all off by .2 hp. Although not significant, it indicates an error. Someone not quite get the fudge correct?
Your motor is more likely to make the hp figures posted (although inflated) than the 4.25X4.25 motor with 10.5:1. What's your c/r?
At 4.31 bore, there is a reasonable amount of unshrouding that the 4.25 engine has.
The 4.25 motor is claiming over 760 hp! That's a LONG way from your 660. And the point is moot, anyway. You ain't puttin any way near that to the ground in any of these Cobras.
CSX is completely right.
And so am I.
