The starting at 70 mph was a example. I was simply stating that at 45 mph+ speeds the big blocks CAN put the power to the ground. There are many roads on the outside of the city were there are hundreds of miles of awesome roads were the view is breathtaking and the roads do about anything you would want. I will not "race" someone through these conditions, however some of the Cobra drivers (including myself) will go cruising single file and "race ourselves". I am not qualified to, nor are the other drivers qualified to race each other at high speeds through the curvy style roads. The crotch rocket boy's do that, and in fact they might have 30 bikes flying through the turns side by side. I don't think they are on a death wish or are looking forward to a wheel chair, but that's 16 - 20 year olds for you.

As far as the Hayabusa/GSXR1000 goes, they are high 9 second 1/4 mile motorcycles and my Cobra does a mid 10 second 1/4 mile with drag radials. I lose to them on a drag race from a standstill because of traction conditions (I think with 325/50/15 slicks it would be another story), however from 45+ launching speeds I have no issues other than objects in the road. A crotch rocket even at 45+ mph can get out of control and have wind conditions come into play.

The weights on the corners are just a starting point..... and you need a starting point.... but once you put the car on the ground and hook up the sway bars and drive it .....

The tire temps will tell you what to do to the Spring once you come off of the track.... they will also tell you what to do to the camber or toe.....

And after a short period of time you will know what to do by the way the car is handling....

Steelcomp:

I purchased the Superformance Cobra because of how easy the car is to drive. Even with a big block you can power through a corner and the car will come out of the corner in a straight line. When it loses traction it just does a little wiggle and goes perfectly straight . I would have to say this is due to the endless Superformance research and development and the Olthoff's racing development.

Thanks Morris,

Last year at Gateway was the first real test for the car. Prior to that it had only seen the street, so "testing" was of the "seat of the pants" variety.

I went to Gateway with .9 neg in front and .4 neg in rear, which is a lot less negative camber than is usually recommended for C4 vette suspension. Also, I reduced the amount of rear camber gain to keep the contact patch flat when the rear squats under acceleration, per D. Guldstrands recommendation. Toe is 1/16 in because it just "felt" best.

At Gateway temps were 150 across the rears and 145 across the L. front, the right front was 10 degrees hotter on the outside because of turns 3 & 4 of the oval.

What does this say? Why do you think the temps are low? Not driving fast enough?

Hi Scott

I would think that the tires are old .....anything past 3 heat cycles is hard to get the tires up to normal range.....

Normal range is 200-210 degree's.... were the tires radial or bias??

Also what was the starting air pressure and ending air pressure.... also were you using Nitrogen... instead of air...??

Also I appologize for discussing suspensions on a motor thread...

Hey, come on. There is always someone faster. On the street, or on the track. You want to beat a motorcycle? go for it. My car goes a legit 11.95 in a 1/4 mile, with Track Claw on street tires. (and then I was asked not to run anymore) And in an open roadster, the trap comes up fast. Power to weight ratio is right up there with any power added street car that can run "stoplight to stoplight". (I think we all know what I mean, that's why there is a true street class).

550 hp in a 2600 lb car is not "measly", please. A Pinto station wagon is measly.

12 second street car is fast, but there is always someone faster. You might like the movie "The Fast and the Furious", they have "8 second" street cars in it.

And for the record, KC has to be getting a chuckle out of this conversation. You can always go faster, nerves and money is all it takes....

These days if you only have 550 "measly" horsepower, the only car you are going to beat is a Pinto station wagon.

You need to get out more often. Outlaw Street class runs 8-1/2 to 9 seconds on drag radials, (right around minimum 3,000# vehicle weight) and with a "measly" 331 ci motor for example. You must be living under a rock!....lol I can't believe you don't drive a Top Alcohol to work. Lets face it, you might see John Force on I-70, and how bad would it be if he beat you from 70 mph????

IMO, 400hp on the street in a 2500 lb car will keep you smiling like the Enzyte guy. And for you Bandit, here is the link

I think a BBF is great, but there is nothing wrong with a SBF in a Cobra, geez.

Hey, my first car was a 69 Ranchero with a factory installed 428 SCJ, and functioning ram air. This was the baddest ride around in those days. Dad tweeked it a little and I took it to Irwindale Raceway at one of their Fox Hunt nights ( all ladies got in free) and ran it during the "run what you brung". We had two man hole covers in the back, and GoodYear Blu Streaks. With a 3:89 LS rear, C6, and factory exhaust (and 90 lb int.), that thing ran an 11.88 at 124 mph!! Still got the slip, somwewhere.
That FE ruled!!
