FE convert seeking advise
Well it seems as though I may soon be joining the FE crowd. So I am looking for advise.
I have to do this on an extreme budget so I will be spending lots of time parts shopping. What I am looking for is recomendations for a FE that will provide mountains of torque, be reliable and streetable and done on a budget.
Thoughts?

HUH?
Dang Rick, what in the world are you going to do with the Cleveland?
If you are set on FE, pick an engine and shop the part numbers. I have a BOSS 351, 1971 era with the correct numbers. Took a long time to put together, but it makes HP. I used ebay to search for PNs.
Why this change?
Just wondering.

The Cleveland (my favorite small block) stays with the car which is for sale. IF I sell the car then I will be building another. Just something different is all.

If you are referring to the overhead shot of my car that is Nelsons garage. You should see the place. Lifts, machine shop, HUGE.
I think the price is a fair price. Not giving it away and not asking to much. The is reliable to the point of boredom (if that is possible in a Cobra) and comes with all the accesories. It is a mixed bag for me. I will miss it. Kind of like your first love.

I would call Southern Automotive and talk to them about the Super FE they are doing (390 based).

Rick,
Remember our conversation at the bar at Buck's? I've officially started the "passive search" for parts for "engine no. 2"...
I figure by the time I am finished, I will be ready...maybe a few years. Not in need right now, don't have the money right now. But like you said, if I can accumulate parts when there are steals...I'll have my FE some day (or my 8,000 RPM small block).
Good luck in your FE odyssey!

rdorman,
I am right in the middle of an FE build. I have a great part supplier right here in my own back yard. Sheds full of FE engine blocks, cranks, cams, heads, carbs, valve covers etc. etc. etc. My 427SO block just finished its magnaflux and bath (his shop). I just purchased a bare set of edelbrock heads, a blue thunder intake manifold, and a set of Eagle connecting rods. He is going to build, balance and blueprint the bottom end and my sons and I plan to complete the rest of it togehter. I could have built a period correct power plant with the inventory my guy has but we decided to chase some serious HP, thus the aftermarket supplies. He's really a good guy, very helpful and very reasonable in his pricing. If you are interested give me a yell and I can try to put the two of you in contact.
Mark

If a budget has to be followed you will need to go 428 or 390.I would go with the 428.Blocks are plentiful and can be built for about the same price ,and it is original of course. chuck
