What FE aluminum intake do I have?
I currently have a FE aluminum intake for sale on ebay (auction ends June 1, 2004) but I don't know exactly what I am selling. The is the FOMOCO logo stamped on it, the ford firing order, and a code CK8. That's it. It appears to be a single plane manifold. Can anyone identify what this is called and when it was made? Thanks

A listing # would be helpful. I searched under FE and FE intake and couldn't find it.

I couldn't find it either.
I'd be real surprised by a factory single plane intake other than a tunnel port or something.

Joe,
My book only lists three single plane factory manifolds:
C8AX-9424-B - 4V single plane for a 427 Tunnel Port
C8AX-9424-A - 8V single plane for a 427 Medium Riser
C7OE-9424-A - 8V single plane for a 427 Tunnel Port
No listing for CK8. FWIW, my manifold has no part number, just the FOMOCO oval logo and the firing order...
Photo maybe?

I was thinking the CK8 might be a casting date code.

I think I found it!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=34198
If this is it, looks like a nice aluminum Fe manifold but nothing real special (no offense) just a regular 428 manifold..
I could be wrong!
Have a good one,
Dan

I bet you found it, I missed that one.
It definitely looks like a CJ manifold but weren't CJs cast iron?
I think it's an aluminum CJ manifold which seems pretty unusual to me. I don't know a lot about 428 stuff though.
I don't think it's non-sidewinder medium riser manifold because it has four holes not 2 oval.
My vote is it's a '68 CJ/PI/SCJ cast in aluminum instead of iron. Probably a pretty decent manifold if it's like a PI.

Check this out.
Here is a site with intake pictures.

I'm going out on a limb and declaring it a 352 HP intake.
If it's from '68 why would it have an oil fill tube?

I own that same exact intake. It's a 63 low rise intake, most likely off a 406 Galaxie I was told. I bought mine from ebay as well. The guy had it listed as a 428 PI intake, so I bought it like a dumbass, instead of doing my homework. I paid like $350 for it I think. But after talking to some FE gurus, I was told it's a good intake for my FE Cobra build up, all I might need to do is port match the ports for the Edelbrock heads. It was also in perfect shape, no cracks or damage, and had the metal shield still on it underneath. I was told I paid a fair price for it and it should perform well. Also, it has the proper look for my 427 S/C clone build. The 428 CJ intake does NOT have the oil fill tube, so it wouldn't have had the look I wanted anyway. The CK8 number is just a casting code, mine says something like EF6. the rest of the intake is identical. Mine does have the casting number on the number 1 intake runner though. Maybe a previous owner of your intake ground it off to try to pass it off as a later CJ intake.
Hope this helps.

Chuck,
You are correct about the 69 CJ and SCJ intakes being cast iron, but you could order the aluminum high riser which they got from Edelbrock. That is what is on my original 69 Ford Torino Cobra.

No it's dual plane.
No it's definitely dual plane. Not a bad intake though from what I've read, for standard or CJ heads.

63 Low Rise - I'd believe that.

I'd believe '63 low rise intake too.

The oil fill tube and PCV opening in the back are definite indicators of an early manifold (pre '65)
