Air filter
Hi,
I am considering using a Stellings air filter and K&N hi flo filter on a 406 with turkey pan. I would like to keep as original as possible.
Do you think this will restrict the air flow, the stellings filter seems to be very thin and small to cope with the amount of air the engine needs.
On the other hand if that,s what was on the car originally then it must be OK!!!
Any comments and advice please.
TIA,
Peter.

It's cool to see another 406 cobra. Mine has the original tripower induction so I can't comment on the Stellings air cleaner but have heard some say the air cleaner is too small to be effective. But with all the guys running these on 1x4 and 2x4 setups I find this hard to believe. What year is your 406? Mine is a 63. G.

Peter,
There have been lots of previous posts regarding stellings air cleaner with K&N filter. Some say the stellings filter makes minimal difference in HP. Others say a big difference. If you do a search you should finds lots of threads.

Yes, those filters do seem small, and by themselves are too small. But, with the hood closed and you driving, it creates a pressurized air box which flows more air than a much larger air filter, also flowing only cooler air ( which is MUCH better).

I'm running the Stellings/K&N - turkey pan combination, and really wouldn't do it any other way.... I know mine gets plenty of what it needs !!!

Thanks for the replies. I did a search and there is plenty of material on this question. I am going to stick with the Turkey pan and Stellins/K&N combo, I want to keep as original as poss.

Air filter
I have the Stellings air cleaner with the foam element. I have not seen a K&N filter that fits the 8.5" (Ithink) diameter of the Stellings. Can someone tell me the correct K&N part number please.
Thanks
Terry

K&N makes a small 7-inch filter for racing applications. I have a pair of them on the two Holley 6224s on my car. It's the only one I've found which will fit up inside the hood scoop cutout on the ERA hood if you have the two 4-barrel setup, but should work for your application also. Filter is K&N model number E-3402. Here's a link:
http://208.196.170.231/cgi-bin/univ.pl
I had to special order them through the local Loper's speed shop in Mesa.
If the 7-inch ones are too small, and you have the dimensions of the filter you need, you can go to the K&N site using this link:
http://knfilters.com/universal/univsearchin.htm
Enter the size and shape you need and it will tell you if they have any filter to match. Keep in mind that the K&Ns are designed for long life; you clean and re- oil them rather than replacing them. As such, they're expensive; the two little 7-inch ones I bought were about $32 apiece.

why do they make those large round and tall air cleaners then? While I have those Stelling and Helling air cleaners I do think they are restrictive.I probably will never see there limits.
