Intake Manifold
Could, please somebody tell me if a Ford manifold with the number C3AE-9425 H is a single plane or a dual plane manifold and if it is a high riser or a medium or a low riser? Thanks in advance

Do you happen to have a picture of it? I have checked my books but could not come up with that number.

Bourret,
If you have the manifold where you can see it just look into the carb intakes. I can't find that part number in any of my books either, but the dual plane and single plane are easy to tell by just looking. My 65 Ford with the 427 tunnel port had a single plane intake with dual 4s and the carbs set up quite high compared to a stock dual 4 intake. Also in the dual plane intake you should be able to look and see the double shelf or whatever technical term they use. One side of the carb will feed to the lower level and the other goes to the higher level. In a single plane intake you won't have that two levels, just one big gas guzzling gaping hole.

Bourret, Is this a iron or magnesium intake? I'm leading towards the latter since none of the obvious numbers match. I can help but need this info. Thx, G.

It' looks like a lowriser but the pic is small and it's hard to tell. The C3 number would follow suit for a lowriser. The "H" is an oddball casting though. Pretty cool and looking good! G.

The C-3 indicates it was introduced into production in 63 ,C=60's decade . 3 is the year ,The A means full sized car line. And the E is from the engine division, 9425 is the base ( genaeic) number for an intake manifold now the H narrows it down ..The parts identifier says C3AE-9425-H is an alluminum 427 2 x 4's Hi Riser intake manifold with port demensions of 1.24 x 2.60 Sound right?
You do know the difference between a low riser, medium riser, and High Riser engines ?

Mike,
In one of his first posts Bourret said the manifold was not aluminum. But my main question is could you give me the location where you found your information? In all the books and print outs that I have, I could not locate that number like you did.
thanks,
ron

It looks like a low riser . The picture here is a C3AE-9425-J Low riser. Low risers had the carb plate designed like this. I am pretty sure that you have this carb plate design under the tape. The H designation is just a run change. Maybe because of a design change or something like that. Even the way your runners are not going down but rather over toward the head indicate a low riser.

But the fact that is cast iron not aluminum is the oddity here. I've consulted a few friends on this and they have never seen or heard of a iron lowriser intake. But as we all have learned there was not many standards held when these were cast way back when and anything is possible. It's got to be a rare item none the less as I've only seen these in aluminum. Next week, I am going to see it and know exactly what metal it is made of. It seems a rare one. Thanks for your comments

Just wondering how much it weighs? If your close to 70 lbs it's iron. If it's around 40 lbs or so (not sure exactly) it might be aluminum. If it's iron yes it's pretty rare as all the FE guys I've talked to about this have not seen a 2x4 iron lowriser intake. Good luck and keep us posted. G.
