Head gaskets

New member needs a little help.
1967 427 SO - 2x4
She needs head gaskets. Can any body point
me in the right direction? The best gasket?
I have also heard there is a left and right side,
and a rightside up and down. Any suggestions
out there that might make the job easer.

Felpro Performance, but, Ford is selling the same gasket under there name at almost 1/2 the price. Felpro's are #fpp-1020 @$31.88 each. Ford Racing # FMS-M-6051-A427 @ $39.95 PR. The actually have the felpro name on them.
These are numbers from Summit.
You may also want to check out the ford intake gaskets# FPP-1247.

There are semetrical water jacket passage holes at front and rear of block.The head gaskets have one of those passages blocked off.The blocked off pasage goes toward the front.Coolant goes from the pump into the front of the bock .,travels to the rear , rises into the head and comes forward in the head, and out at front into the intake manifold and thermostat.You turn those gaskets around and coolant won't bother flowing to the rear of the engine.pump -front of block-up through the front of head-out to intakemanifold.No flow in rear of engine.

I couldn't use the cork gaskets supplied with the intake gasket set for front and rear intake to block valley.Make sure that the sealing surfaces for valvecover head and intake line up .I had to have intake manifold milled to match,which made front and rear even tighter. Blue RTV front and rear , be sure to get the corners.
The part of gasket that protrudes between head and intake manifold where the valvecover seals. Cut it a little high and peen the rest level with the sealing rail. A touch of RTV there also.

Good point Mike about the "cork", throw them away. Even the BEST engine builders don't use the cork. Myself? I use the orange, I suppose the blue is good too.

I had a really HARD time finding intake gaskets for my HIGH RISER heads, they are different. Bigger ports you see.

Chris from Shelby eventually found a pair for me (BIG $$). Until then I made my own from gasket material using a ball peen hammer, scissors and razor blade. They worked fine on my 2X4 intake!

My experience with the orange (hi-temp) sets up so fast that ,on an oilpan ,it was cloting before I could get back around the edge to smooth it out.The Blue is supposed to be oil resistant and will wait for me to get the coating smooth and ready.

There were 427 steel shim head gaskets that were L & R specific. They had a double ring for sealing which required the correct side to face upwards and a compressed thickness of .031".These also have been long out of production.

Are they the C3AE-6051-BS?

There is also a C3AE-6051-B which are your std reinforced steel gaskets. These are also not L or R specific and a .020 thickness.

I have at least 2 of the BS gaskets along with some 6051-C which are composite for 427 SOHC.
