Collateral Damage
To cold to drive the Cobra and presently impossible since I am awaiting my new engine build I thought I would post a picture of some of the internal damage to my cam, lifters, valves and #1 piston (notice the rod was twisted off from my crank), the block had a small hole in it the size and shape of Florida too.

During the last session of the day at Texas Motor Speedway Jay told me I was third fastest so I changed rev my 6000 RPM limiter with a 6700 or 6900 limiter. My competitive juices told me I could be faster if I could get a few more RPMs on the front straight a way. After changing limiters and running about 20 mins into a 30 minute session coming out of turn 2 I noticed my oil pressure fell from 50 psi to 5 psi (I suspect that was when the #1 rod bearing spun) so I pulled into the hot grid and my oil pressure climbed back up to 50 again ( I reasoned the drop in oil pressure was because of the 38 degree banking). Two laps later while passing a Viper and a Vette I heard this swoosh and my engine went quiet. I got a little loose for a moment and coasted into the pits. First thought was that I had lost a freeze plug since it was missing. Not so! The old 428 CJ was really hooked up and pulling like there was no LIMIT before everything went quiet.
There are other bent and broken parts but I think from the looks of things you can tell the engine was pretty much toast.

I'll give you $5 for that piston, rod combo. The stories I could tell. Is that a Comp solid lifter camshaft? What's your next build going to be?

Yep,
428's don't like to spin much past 6000. The rod length to stroke ratio stinks and you only have a cast crank.
Better luck with the next one.

You ask for it so here are a few more dollars on the table. I positioned the piston to show where it impacted the cylinder wall.
Notice the the rod bearing end how smooth it seperated from the long part of the rod. Also, take a look at the bearing to the right how it apears to have melted on the crank. Below the piston on the lower left is the cam thrust plate (what's left of it). Unshown are the bent push rods (only three noticable to the eye) and the other rod bolt.
This could be arranged into some kind of modern art exibit.

Here is the crank already turned .040 and may have one good turn left but I won't use it in any engine I intend to race,
