Distributor shaft tolerance - Help please
Wonder if you guys can help me. Fitted my MSD pro billet distributor to my Mowtown 415 (SB) seemed a very snug fit. In fact I had to sand down the size of my oil pump primer collar(the one that closes off the oil gallery).
First time engine start - great. Ran the engine to break in the cam and then set about to find 36 deg on the timing. The distributor shaft wouldn't rotate even with quite a bit of force. My assumption is that the expansion of the block and the aluminium gallery collar on the distributor has snugged the two so tight due to lack of tolerance.
Taking into account that it was a tight fit, anybody any ideas about how much I should take off the collar so that I dont lose oil pressure, but allow ithe distibutor to turn.
Definately not my strong spot so any help would be appreciated.
Mike.
