Strange VIN on a 1969
63CB0215R749W2
Guys, this is a VIN number obtained off of a 1969 Fastback Mustang. What is this? I have never seen one like it. What is the engine code? Was this a 428 car or what?
HELP!!!

From memory my '66 Mustang had a number stamped into the inner guard - your drivers side. My Mustang had a K code or similiar.
The entire number represented the engine/carby setup, factory, paint colour etc. etc.
Has this car got a similiar number?
Again, guess as Craig has said Mr. Mustang will chime in with the details.

Re: Strange VIN on a 1969
The number is not for a Mustang of any year. First off the vintage 64.5-79 Mustangs all used 11 digit serial numbers, this one is 14 digits long. Either the seller is mistaken, or the VIN was replaced due to theft recovery by a state the car once resided in...
Now with that said, of course quite a few people look at the drivers side door dataplate and read off the numbers stamped there as one long VIN (even though the true VIN is stamped to the upper left of the other information. In which case the number you posted breaks down as follows:
Body Code: 63C=mach I Sportsroof
Exterior Color Code: B0=Royal Maroon w/black trim
Interior Trim Code: 21=does not decode as it is not the correct numbers for this area
Production Date Code: 5R7=does not decode as it is not the correct numbers for this area
District Sales Order: 49=none exisitant sales order district (unused by Ford in 69)
Axle code: W=4:30 locker rear gear set
Transmission code: 2=does not decode as it is not the correct number for this area
Now ask the seller for the true VIN stamped into the inner fender panels, or located on the dash tag (drivers side) at the base of the windshield....if he cannot give you the correct 11 digit (don't tell him it's 11 digits) Vehicle Identification Number, I suggest walking away from the car unless your using it for parts............

VIN comes off a plate on which is printed at the bottom "National Street Rod Association", obviously not the manufacturer's plate. Second, someone jump in here if I'm wrong, but isn't a "69" too young of a vehcle to qualify for NSRA membership. Is something rotten in this Denmark?
No expert here, just voicing what I would ask myself if I were interested in this car.

The correct VIN will be stamped into the tops of both front inner fender panels, the drivers side should be visable with the naked eye. if no VIN is stamped there, then on the base of the windshield, just inside of the drivers side top of dash pad should be the actual VIN plate. The plate that is shown is not a valid serial number. if it was exported with that serial number in the past, and the UK DMV is using it as the actual VIN, then there are problems that your better off walking away from..........

Yeah, I know about these fine young men..
Yeah, Mr. Mustang and everyone else. This VIN fiddling is a very lucrative industry some grease monkeys work very hard at.
I was traveling through Switzerland two years ago and came across this used car lot that had like two dozen American cars on it.
One of these cars was a gold and black 1973 MAch - 1. It looked very clean. When I approached the car to look at the VIN through the windshield the dealer jumped out of his closet yelling in swiss german all kinds of menacing stuff.
I said: DANKE SCHÖN MEIN HERR !!
