Default oil blowby smell

HI, I HAVE A 428 AND SOMETIMES I GET A QUICK SMELL FROM THE ENGINE, IT IS HARD TO TELL BUT IT SMELLS LIKE BLOWBY BUT I CAN'T BE SURE. I HAVE ONE PVC VALVE ON ONE VALVER COVER AND JUST A BREATHER CAP ON THE OTHER. WHAT DO YOU THINK, THANKS TERRY

Terry,

Check the PCV valve to be sure it is ok. Then on the other breather cap, feel for a film on the bottom outside of it. I have a hose from mine that goes to the air cleaner and that sucks the fumes out and into the carb just as the one from the PCV valve does.

Ron

Only form of breathing is a PCV valve? You need more breathing.

Most FE's are happiest with at least 3 breathers. Early 427's had 4. Both valve covers, the oil filler tube in the intake and the breather / pcv valve behind the carb. (or a down draft tube)
