Default Need FE Bearing Recommendation

I'm running a new Scat 3.98" crank with Scat H-beam rods (Not BBC size.) I need a recommendation on what bearings to use.

Does anyone have experience with this combo? It appears that the rods do not have a "radiused" side...but both sides are straight.

I would assume the Clevite P series would be adequate....as I can't find that Clevite makes an H series bearing.....though I don't know if it would work anyway as the H series bearings are for .125" radius crank journals.

Any recommendations for this combo? Clevite P's are ok?

If it was my motor I would use some of the Calico coated bearings
Does your scat crank have radiused fillets and what sizes do you need. I will have my son Corey look up whats available tomorrow

Here's an old post that lists different bearings available; being so old, some info is likely outdated: Rod bearing suggestions

Here's a link which describes the difference between Federal Mogul standard and racing bearings; I'm not recommending you buy from this company, but the info is good. You can run performance bearings on a standard-grind crank, but you loose some bearing width, which might offset the positive aspects of the better bearing.

Interesting to hear that I had problems with those FM race mains. I have them in my pair of 505 FEs with no problems. One made 712HP and was featured in Hot Rod a year or so ago (when it was a touch weaker at 676), the other was in my recent Engine Master Challenge entry which made 752HP.

As far as I know they are still available as part number 125M. Only problem is that you can't get any -1s to tighten up clearances - and some of the offshore cranks give you .0032-.0035 - - not a disaster but more than I like.

The narrower or chamfered bearing will be OK on a normal crank. Its not really enough material to get excited about in a mild engine. On a cast crank you need to be certain that the polishing procedure is correct - - or you risk accelerated bearing wear.

Barry R., the post you're referring to is dated 2001; obviously FM has had time to redesign their race mains. Hey, I mentioned it was an old post and some info was likely outdated. Glad to hear they're working so well.
