I received my block today from Keith Craft. It's exactly what I wanted. The detail that's in this block is impeccable. I'll try to get it on the stand and take some pictures tomorrow.
It's a C5AE-A 390 block. It's a webbed main block and had the nubs for cross bolt caps. Keith sonic tested it and found it to be as thick as some of his 428 blocks, so he bored it to a 4.130" bore. It has been bored, square decked, align bored, cam bearings installed, all
oil passage work completed, press in plugs were changed to screw-in pipe plugs, main bearing
oil holes were chamfered, it was cleaned, painted and glyptol'd....and here's my favorite part: the block was milled to accept my Pro-Gram billet cross-bolt main caps. This block looks so stout on the bottom end. I'm going to be pushing 600hp and will be turning 6500-7000 revs....so I wanted the extra beef.
I'll be using a new Scat 3.98" stroke crank....so I'll basically be working with a 428ci FE.
I took off tomorrow so I could play with my new toys. I'm gonna bolt the tranny and bellhousing to the block along with the motor mounts and set it in the car. I need to make sure that it will set in the same place as my small block and have plenty of clearance between my fabbed valve covers and the footboxes.
I've already blueprinted my crank.....and I'm gonna try to bore mic the main and rod bearing ID's tomorrow.
Thanks again Keith. You and your shop do excellent work.
My wife won't let me keep it in the living room tonight.
