Default 427 S.O. vs. 428 SCJ?

OK, I am very nwe to the whole idea of engine sizes in these cobras, and would like some insight from you guys who are "in the know"
I am trying to decide between two built cobras that are for sale. I like both manufacturers, so I really would like to know about engine choice.
Cobra "A" has a 428 SCJ with approx. 3500 since it was rebuilt.
Cobra "B" has a 427 S.O. with approx 4500 miles since it was rebuilt.
I know 427 are COOL but is there a vast diiference in value, performance, reliability, cooling issues, maintanence, the way they sound ?
I've never had the opportunity to try either of thses powerplants out, and would love to know whar the general feeling is from those who have. Thanks!

Question Price?

How much more for the side oiler?

If the cars are close to the same, the s.o. should fetch much more money. Or there's something wrong with the s.o.

jdog
P.S. If you want to answer: "Yes it is" every time you open the hood, get the side oiler!
Otherwise you'll be saying: "No it's not" a lot!

My input is a real 60s iron 427SO is better served in something other than a replica Cobra, and worth more on an engine stand and probably the same for a real CJ or SCJ now days. For this reason I plan to sell my own CJ to a collector down the road who can put it in the appropriate restore car. With today's Shelby blocks, Pond blocks, Genesis blocks, seems to be the better way to go.

No, I'll probably build a brand new FE block through Tom like a Pond or Shelby based block in a few years since my car is a 427 based platform and I just love the FE, know them well (quirks and all). The original CJ (if I sell it and hate to part with it) will probably go to someone restoring a Shelby/KR car or something. I've already had a few offers to sell it and have been holding off. I have the matching engine/trans and they deserve to be in the an authentic car/restore situation. My car does not benefit from an original numbered block/trans. No reason for a crate motor since I have Tom. We can custom build what I want at a reasonable price. As jdog said, he's not cheap but from what I've seen in comparison to the inside of other motors you get a lot of value from Tom at FE Specialties.

Jdog:
I was there when Tom unloaded them after the ride from Sacramento. I was afraid one of them was going to snap off the engine stand. Thats a lot of beef to be hanging on a $49 Harbor Freight stand.

Mr. Pond made the rounds over here in the Midwest a few weeks back with a trailer full of blocks, a friend of mine relieved him of three of them.
CaliCobra, from all the listening and observations I have made the 428 is very well respected, the 427 SO is almost revered.

Well said. I agree with your statement of "respected vs. revered" 100% It seems that the 427 SO has a sort of a cult following; and for good reason.
